A Blast From the Past and a Moment of Hope

The battle for the election isn't over, but looking at some of the outright despair in conservative circles, it seemed like the right time to revisit another November a dozen years ago.

The writing is cruder and briefer, but here's what I wrote on November 4, 2008.

Today I unpacked my winter clothes in preparation for a long winter, and a long winter is coming if not of the thermometer, then of the soul. A man that represents not simply an opposing view but the view of those who oppose America and all it stands for, will sit in the Oval Office. Worse still he did not get there through a democratic election but through fraud, voter intimidation and every dirty trick culminating in a campaign that had little in common with conventional American politics and a great deal in common with the cults of personality cultivated by totalitarian dictators...

The battle is over, the war begins. The United States government now falls into the hands of the enemies of this country and civilization for a time or forever. And that is part of what the war is about. The country has been in the hands of people we disagreed with, but never in the hands of people whose views are as diametrically opposed to ours as anything in the Third Reich or the Kremlin. In their hands Federal power becomes enemy power. The more ineffective and tied up they are, the less damage they can do...

The battle against them must be twofold, first to limit the damage they can do while in power, and secondly to plan and prepare to retake Congress and then the White House in a coherent and orderly manner without the chaos and backbiting that has characterized the last year of this campaign. It will be all too easy to fall into the blame game and to let it devour us, too much of the conservative movement and the anti-jihad blogsphere is already fractured. The goal now must be to heal those fractures, to create unity around a single purpose, to liberate America again...

The Obama years will make the worst of the Clinton years look mild by comparison. We have seen the thuggish abuses of power that brought Obama into office, but that is only a taste of what an Obama administration in control of the Federal government will be able to do. We have seen only a shadow of the ruthless methods that were used to bring him to power, and even that shadow is mostly dismissed as conspiracy theories. But that is also our best hope. Obama's only real calling card has been an empty promise. Now he will have power and responsibility and we know he will abuse them. Arrogance was and remains his Achilles heel and the Achilles heel of his backers. And when their revolution runs into the reality of voter expectations, there will be the opening to begin the political downfall of this government.

For my own part I do not recognize Obama as my President, nor will I refer to him as such. He has no legal right to serve in office nor has he won a legal election. Nor do his cronies have any right to serve in any position they are appointed to.

We have a long journey through dark lands ahead of us. Let us hope to soon once again emerge into the light...

I'm departing from the usual article format, well-researched investigative pieces and complete columns, and revisiting an old blog post, because there are a few things worth remembering

1. Conservatives have been here before and with worse odds, with a popular elected leader in the White House and Congress safely tucked away in his hands. Neither of which is true now.

2. Resistance can be invigorating and help a movement finds its energy and its center. However the election turns out, conservatives are always in the resistance to the oligarchy and the establishment.

3. Conservatives were far too complacent going into this election. That was a complacency they could not afford. I suspect that there is now and will be a lot less complacency.

4. Unity remains vital. The Democrats went into this election united and Republicans went into it divided. That's something to think deeply on.

5. The past is the present and the future. Everything that will happen has already happened. There is nothing new under the sun. Only the labor that must be done.

    1. Why sad? Time for US to get mad. We've worked our butts off, did everything right, and our system was abused with the help of cheaters & media & tech. Trump is fighting & we shouldn't let up for one minute until every machine is turned upside down & inside out and votes are counted by hand if necessary. there is NO WAY Biden won that election.

  2. Daniel, I agree with everything you say, but I don't understand your comment about the complacency of Conservatives. Are you referring to the establishment Republicans? We, the people, have not been complacent. We have attended rallies and parades both in the water and on land and have Twittered ourselves into furious opposition. Please explain what you meant with that comment?

    1. I'm not saying people didn't work hard, but too many also thought the election was a sure thing.

Daniel, I never for one minute thought President Trump's reelection was automatically in the bag (although the rallies gave me hope). What I was not prepared for was the depth of evil the marxist Democrats would resort to so they could brazenly steal it, coupled with the fake news media as their accomplices.

    3. Pure election fraud. This should infuriate every American. Trump won. Conservatives won. Soros machines & tricksters have twisted this country into something it is not & that does not represent what each person voted for for decades now.

  3. WOW, I forgot about that. Maybe because it didn't seem as bad or as crushing as it does now. Perhaps it has something to do with the machinations of the Dems before and during Trump's presidency that rivals that of the worst totalitarian system on the planet.

Putin and Xi Jinping must be elated.

Here's a scary thought: if Xi unleashed Covid onto the US & the world (instead of containing it the way he did for the rest of his country) in order to seriously damage their economies, well, he achieved so much more. He got rid of the troublesome president without resorting to the usual measures of the olden days.

I never thought it could happen here other than in the movies. GOP was ineffective, but they were not dishonest. Is that now the ONLY way to win?

    1. Time creates distance. And Trump gave people hope.

But it was much worse than it is now.

    Thanks for raising your voice!

We the People believe that massive voter fraud has been perpetrated against the American public and that our election process has been corrupted and our voices SILENCED.
Judicial Watch reported in October that:
A comparison study of Census Bureau population statistics and state voter registration data to reveals that 352 U.S. counties in 29 states managed to have 1.8 million MORE REGISTERED VOTERS THAN ELIGIBLE VOTERS!
In other words the registration rates of those counties exceeded 100% of eligible voters. Texas had some registrations as high as 187%!!!
We DEMAND not only a recount, but ALSO verification of every vote received in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada.
We further DEMAND that if fraud is discovered an immediate investigation should be conducted.

Others need to start similar petitions on the WH web site so there is no doubt We the People want this!!!! At the very least it will let the democrats know they have not been given a mandate to drag We the People down the path to socialism.

It's a rather bizarre situation when so many voters choose a man clearly suffering from the onset of senility, not to mention a history of influence peddling. The choice for president could've been Trump and Not Trump, and Not Trump would've had the same number of votes as Biden. Unlike Trump, Biden will listen to his handlers and restrict his speeches to his teleprompter in an attempt to hide his deteriorating condition. The MSM will assist whenever possible. But I am going to make this prediction: Before the end of his first term Biden will rapidly become too befuddled to properly run the country and his wife Jill will be making decisions for him, just as Edith Wilson did for Woodrow after his stroke.

  6. I remember that piece you wrote, and again wiped a tear from my eyes as I read that passage here this morning. I also revisit your piece entitled 'Whither Goest Thou America', and continue to share that one. 'Whither, and 'The Battle is Over, the War Begins' should both be framed and hang in the National Gallery. While not a perfect man, Trump was America's second chance. It's sorrowful that more didn't see that, or even want it. So, the war goes on. There is no better thing we can do than continue to engage the enemy

      Good vs. Evil.

Point four; Unity: Our unified enemy does talking
points, congressional voting with every member in
step. All know deviation is fatal. So their
dogma is axiomatic, unquestionable, sticks in
the public mind, especially for school kids.

We Conservatives need a catchier name that
sounds fun and interesting. Ditch the stodgy.

We need to extol the goodness of America and
banish the propaganda of slavery, Indians,
    pollution, feminism. Pride, not shame.

We need to substitute a logical common morality
for varied religious ones, as applied to our
country. Old morality based laws should not
be advocated: abortion, drugs, gays. These
    chase away otherwise good constituents.

  8. Daniel; I prey you are correct! But we need to remember it was the extreme corruption of process by siad Admin that has created the terminal corruption in the entire Government Swamp! If evidence that even 5 years ago I would have rejected out of hand but now believe likely, THE CIA is invlved in computer hacks in several states! Sir; I therefore must strongly disagree! 2008 was every bit as bad as was feared! Perhaps more so!!!
