Europe's Rising Islamic Insurgency

2,000 cases.

That was the most overlooked revelation to come from the testimony of the former FBI director. While the media parsed every Comey hiccup to bolster its election conspiracy theories, it ignored that number.

Comey stated that there were around 2,000 terrorism investigations. 1,000 of those came from “home grown violent extremism” with no evidence of contact with foreign terrorists. Another 1,000 had "some contact with foreign terrorists". 300 from that 2,000 had come to America as refugees.

Two-thirds of the refugee terrorists were from Iraq. The other third were mainly from the six countries named in President Trump’s travel pause which left-wing activist judges have unconstitutionally halted.

Two years ago, Comey listed around 900 investigations. Even assuming that some of the 1,000 “home grown extremists” aren’t Muslim terrorists, that’s a staggering and shocking rise in case numbers.

Back then, he had said that the FBI was having trouble with the sheer volume of investigations in every state. "If that becomes the new normal," he had said, "that would be hard to keep up."

The new normal is only getting worse.

Those 2,000 investigations represent active cases. When an investigation does not pan out, it’s over. The FBI investigated Omar Mateen before he carried out the Pulse massacre where the second-generation refugee murdered 49 people, according to his own words, “in the name of Allah, the merciful.”

A preliminary investigation has to be wrapped up in six months. A year at the most. Mateen’s investigation was wrapped up in the spring of ’14. His name went off the terror watchlist.

Two years later he struck.

Those 2,000 cases are the tip of a very large iceberg. Below those 2,000 cases are the larger numbers of potential terrorists who, like Mateen, had the book closed on their investigations.

In the UK, there are 3,000 potential terrorists being investigated, but 20,000 others had been “subjects of interest” in the past. We don’t know how large that second number is in the United States. But it’s probably not too far off the British one. In which case we also have over 20,000 potential terrorists.

Nor do we know how large the third number of potential terrorists who never appeared on the radar is.

Against these numbers, MI5, which handles counterterrorism in the UK, has 4,000 staffers. Only a small fraction of these would be employed in counterterrorism in MI5’s G Branch. London’s Counter Terrorism Command has a staff of 1,500. The Greater Manchester Police’s counter-terrorism unit had a team of 20. These numbers are obviously inadequate. But what number could possibly be enough?

The British military can put 10,000 soldiers on city streets after a terrorist attack. After Manchester, 5,000 soldiers were deployed. SAS special forces are reportedly being permanently positioned in London. The military was deployed for the first time in a century when Tony Blair sent tanks to secure Heathrow Airport after an Islamic terror threat. Now military deployment is becoming the new normal.

France deployed 10,000 soldiers to patrol cities after the Paris attacks. Operation Sentinelle is still underway two years later. Soldiers patrolling Paris are awarded a medal for Protection of the Territory. Half of the French soldiers deployed in a military role are patrolling the streets of Paris and other cities.

Belgium and Italy also deployed troops in Brussels and Rome in 2015.

The forces being deployed include such storied names as the French 35th Infantry Regiment, one of the country’s oldest regiments with a history dating back to the 17th century, the Irish Guards at Whitehall and the legendary Chasseurs Ardennais in Belgium. This is not counterterrorism. It’s a war.

In 2015, the year of many of these military deployments, 211 terror plots occurred in EU countries. These attacks killed 151 people and wounded another 360. 1,077 terrorism arrests were made.

Those numbers are closer to Iraq than anything in the West. And they are only growing worse.

Obama tried to dismiss Islamic terrorism as a criminal problem. But when soldiers are being deployed in major cities, it’s not crime. It’s an insurgency. The Islamic insurgency from Iraq was exported to America by Iraqi refugees as the FBI’s own numbers show. Islamic insurgencies from Pakistan, Libya and Algeria have been exported to Europe in the same way. Islamic immigration has brought its insurgency here.

These insurgencies form around Muslim population centers. Manchester’s Muslim population nearly doubled in a decade. Toward the end of that decade, a Muslim plot to bomb a shopping mall in Manchester on the Easter Bank Holiday was broken up. That plot failed. Another one succeeded.

These insurgencies are not a police problem. They are a military threat.

A Muslim terrorist network in London, Paris or New York is as much of a military issue as one in Baghdad or Beirut. The infrastructure of investigations and trials we have set up to fight these networks is utterly unsuited to the nature of the problem of Islamic terrorism and overwhelmed by its growing scope.

The question is do we want to turn our cities into Baghdad with thousands of soldiers patrolling our streets? Rising Muslim domestic insurgencies will leave even the most liberal leaders with no choice but to resort to wartime measures. Even in America this has meant the TSA, the NSA and a host of other restrictions and violations. Yet these are inescapable unless the root cause of the insurgency is tackled.

If things go on as they are, the military occupation of our cities becomes permanent.

The great cities of the West crumble into a maze of insurgency and counterinsurgency operations with thousands of soldiers on the street securing safe green zones and venturing for raids into no go zones. Those soldiers stop just patrolling and occasionally responding to attacks. Instead they will be employed in manning checkpoints and deterring groups of armed insurgents from carrying out major attacks.

200 terror plots will become 2,000 terror plots. 151 dead will become 1,500 dead and then 15,000 dead. And then every Western country that opened its doors to “refugees” will become Iraq.

Comey estimated that 250 persons from this country had traveled to Syria to fight in its terrorist war. The British estimate is between 850 and 2,000, the French estimate between 500 and 900, the German estimate at 750 and the Belgian estimate around 500 and the total EU estimate tops out at 4,200.

If they survive and return, thousands of trained enemy insurgents will be living in Europe. And they will be facing thousands of soldiers in the streets of major cities who have been deployed to fight them.

The first major wave of terror this century was fueled by Islamic terrorists who had fought in Afghanistan. The newest wave of terror will have insurgents trained in Iraq and Syria.

Supporters of refugee admissions and open borders are ushering in a military occupation and a civil war. There is no escaping these numbers or evading the facts on the ground that they represent.

But unlike Iraq or Syria, the Islamic insurgency is not an indigenous problem. The Islamic terrorist is not indigenous to America or Europe. He is a recent guest. He has been here for decades, not centuries. We can’t fix the tribal conflicts in Syria or Iraq, but we can interdict them through immigration reform.

Every effort to oppose President Trump’s travel pause is a vote for soldiers in the streets and car bombs every morning. It can only end with the wars that the left hated in Iraq and Afghanistan being fought in the cities where its activists, protesters and supporters live behind barbed wire and checkpoints.

Islamic terrorism is a war. The only way to stop that war is to stop migration from terror states today.

This article first appeared at Front Page Magazine as part of Daniel Greenfield's work as a Shillman Journalism Fellow. He then discussed its implications in light of the latest terror attacks in the UK and President Trump's call for a travel ban on FOX Business.

(Daniel Greenfield will be speaking on Defending Israel and Fighting Anti-Semitism in Los Angeles at the Ariel Avrech Memorial Lecture on Sun, Jun 11 at 10 AM at the Auditorium, 1619 South Robertson Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90035)

Unlawful enemy combatants, they and any persons who aided them. Court martial, convict and execute.
These people are not normal criminals and the normal criminal courts are not constituted to deal with an insurgency. Criminal courts deal with crime. This is war.
To squeeze the jihad into a box made for civilian crime is a category error and will be ineffective.
Enemy combatants out of uniform and attacking civilians is a war crime. The remedy is courts martial. All residing in a Western country swearing loyalty to Daesh and intending the imposition of Sharia have rendered themselves subject to court martial.
In WWII, German soldiers who infiltrated into the USA with the intent to cause disruption were denied access to the civilian court system when caught.

  3. When going to synagogue in Amsterdam on shabbat one sees about half a dozen heavily armed, flack jacket wearing special forces police men on guard duty. They stand for the protection of Jews but they should have stood at the mosques as a threat to those "new Dutch"that their behaviour shall not be tolerated. It still does not register with the weak generation but civilisation is in jeopardy and we are at war with Islam in each and every country which invited this evil in under the guise of needing a labor force replacing the indigenous one which shrunk due to falling reproduction numbers, however the import does not labor but only leeches on the spoils of the labor of the dwindling authochthonal one and threatens it's survival.

Terror state immigration bans are necessary but not sufficient measures. In addition, do the following:

    - Determination and declaration that Islam and Sharia are by nature contrary to the U.S. Constitution. Such remains until 90% of Muslim majority states allow: Freedom from Dhimmitude and Sharia Law, Equality of women, Freedom of information and expression.
    - Stop all Islamic financial donations to U.S. universities and U. S. Muslim Brotherhood affiliate organizations.
    - Lifetime prohibition of benefits to U.S. officers, families, associates from any/all Islamic country or entity.
    - Terror state immigrants are prohibited from visiting any terror state. Violation shall result in lifetime loss of U.S. residency to immigrant and extended family.
    - Felony by immigrant results in immediate lifetime deportation of immigrant and extended family.
    - Stop all Imam immigration.
    - Intense covert surveillance of all mosque functions.
    - Mandatory revocation of security clearances held by Muslims.

  5. No Muslims, no Muslim terrorism. Harsh, but unless contemporary Islamic countries can do something about radicalism, that's the inevitable result.

Excellent article, describing the military situation about exactly as it really is, without sensationalizing it as some do, or underplaying it as most do. Also the precise remedies needed are included.

  7. Thanks Daniel, for your work. The Manchester information was horrifying. As various blog sites still have prevaricators and doubters, ""peace and love"" posters, here is a good place to refer people who are swinging. As Infidel says you are > "describing the military situation about exactly as it really is, without sensationalizing it as some do, or underplaying it as most do. "" I personally believe we will have to develop private enterprise to deal with various local situations. I see no other way, and I see this as a service older men could commit to. This being that older men may have brought up families and now have time, and discipline necessary to give back to our Nations and culture.

    Mr.Greenfield you state above that:
"These insurgencies are not a police problem. They are a military threat."

You then go on to state your case against military action by saying "The great cities of the west crumble into a maze of insurgency operations with thousands of soldiers on the street.........".

I believe you hit the nail on the head with your first statement. When ever there is a terrorist attack we see thousands of federal agency personnel at the scene and thousands of local police but no National Guard. If the government was as quick to call out the National Guard for protecting the homeland as was their original intent instead of shipping them over seas for indefinite periods of time it may clarify the responsibility and mission of our military. If the National Guard can be called out for suppressing riots and other internal police action why can't they be called out for terrorist attacks? It need not be in the same context nor as long as the British policing Northern Ireland but it would be a better use of them than the long tours of duty in the Middle East which they now are involved in.

But that is the governments problem in a nut shell....perception and proper use of it's resources.

Paul Scott: I have a few problems with your above analysis of how to handle the problem. By the way you phrase your opinion obviously you are looking through the eyes of a young person. Us older guys who most likely already SERVED OUR COUNTRY are according to you supposed to be asked to give our selves to serving again? We who served in Vietnam and were spit on instead of any proper welcome home are to put our lives at risk again instead of you pajama boys? Next your use of the term "give back to our nation" has always aggravated and annoyed me to no end. That term makes it sound like we took more than what we had coming to us and now it's payback time while it's just the opposite. Perhaps it is not mine but your generation which needs to learn responsibility and discipline.

  10. "The question is do we want to turn our cities into Baghdad with thousands of soldiers patrolling our streets?"

Well, judging by the left's attitude toward Islam, I think the answer is yes. The way I see it, the left has determined that the white race, western culture - including Judeo-Christian values - must go. They are symbols of racism, oppression, intolerance, greed, decadence, imperialism, bigotry, etc., etc., etc.

"Yes," you will say, "but most lefties are white and were born in the western world. They will 'go,' too." True. But it does not seem to bother them because a) some think that Islam is only after white western conservatives (I kid you not). Lefties are good people who support Islam, so they will be spared. b) Others believe that everything and everyone should be sacrificed on the altar of multiculturalism and inclusiveness. And if that includes them, well, you can't make an omelette w/o breaking eggs. Don't worry. Once the dust settles down, everything will be ok.

You think I am joking/exaggerating? Don't. The above is what I was told on two separate occasions by different lefties. Were they serious? I don't know. Remember these people, especially the young variety, live in a fantasy world. These are people who think that poverty can be eradicated by just throwing money at those who don't have it; and hatred will be eradicated by simpering at those who hate us and letting them invade our countries and live off the tax-payer. They believe in man-made global warming. They have no sense of reality. All they do is dream. So as long as their lives are not really at danger, they can afford to talk like heroes.

So, yes. In spite of their hatred for anything military, I think the left will gladly see their cities turned into military states. A small price to pay to ensure that the borders remain open.

  11. You forgot to mention the OKC bombing, which involved middle eastern men in contact with Timothy. OKC is a major center for Iraqi refugees, including some from Iraqi intelligence.

Jayna Davis wrote a book documenting this, "The Third Terrorist".

  12. They are NOT 'immigrants'.
    They are NOT 'refugees'.
    They are NOT 'migrants'.
    They are NOT 'asylum seekers'.
They are NOT American 'citizens'; nor will they ever be citizens of any country, except of the subhuman, murderous, political filth & ideological sewage called islam.
The system of islam is NOT a 'religion'. It is a total political-social system, intended and designed for the conquest, destruction and death of anything which opposes it.
The enemy is the subhuman filth, called islam. It is incompatible with Western Civilization.
THEY ARE FERAL, 7th CENTURY, TRIBAL *moslem* INVADERS.
They are carrying diseases we eradicated decades ago, and re-spreading them throughout the Western World's Civilizations.
The islamists will not assimilate, and are coming to take over our country, our way of life, and kill us all.
The flood of islamic rapists, mutilators, molesters and murderers is just beginning.
It will get many times worse this year, even after 0sambo is gone from office, and is back in hell where he belongs.
The murderous islamic caliphate, and its subhuman, lowlife tribal moslem filth, are on the move, worldwide.
The murderous filth of islam - moslems - are our problem, not 'gun control' and 'climate change'.
    Wake-up America!

When the left wants to destroy something, first they develop an altruistic ‘cause’ that inevitably requires it. To destroy oil-gas industry… save the earth, to destroy the family… make marriage any union between anyone, to destroy the country… take down the borders in the name of compassion. Now comes the test: to destroy Judeo-Christian beliefs… import millions of …………. (fill the dotted line with your best guess)

Basically, you hit the nail on the head by assessing the current terror situation as a military action rather than a criminal action. I have been saying that for years, but not as eloquently.

I have been following this and studying this for years and will describe it this way:

First, our western leadership, especially here in the US has, for decades, refused to recognize, confront, and adequately respond to state sponsored subversion and terror from our so-called OPEC allies. The funding of the mega mosques and endowed chairs, purchase of media companies, lobbying for easy visas, and purchasing of important companies are one part of the equation. These all buy influence and put pressure on government officials to not see or say certain things. Follow the money.

Secondly, no president, starting with FDR, has had the spine to stand up to the threats of economic blackmail from these oil producing countries. The US, Western European, and friendly Asian countries have thousands of workers (hostages), business deals, and remittances tied to the oil based economies there. You can bet that anything that might upset that applecart results in phone calls, e-mails, and lobbyists en masse hitting government offices.

These operations may look like "lone wolf" attacks lately, but there are many points connecting the dots and these are tied to certain countries. This is no different than the Nazis (who supported the Mufti of Jerusalem and his Islamic revolts) and the German-American Bund movement prior to WWII. Even people that should who should have known better (like Rickenbacker and Lindbergh) fell under the Nazi spell. Too many have been beguiled by money, appearances, and smooth words.

Until our "leaders" are willing to recognize, name, and go after the state supporters of this invasion and attack, nothing will change. Seriously, where the hell do these so-called refugees get the thousands of dollars from to pay the people traffickers? How do these traffickers get all these boats? Where do these so-called humanitarians get the money from to get rescue boats and supplies to support the "refugees"?

Where did 20 men get money to live, pay for flying lessons, cars, travel, and everything else for 2 years with no jobs? How did they avoid removal despite run ins with the law and expired visas? Get the picture?

Lastly, it has been known for years that these terror groups all work together and share expertise to bring down Western Civilization as we know it. Leftists, Nazis, drug cartels, Muslims, and anarchists will share knowledge, training, operatives and whatever to pull off an attack.

Clorinda: The ever increasing frequency of attacks, sense of insecurity, and appearance (?) of an ineffective government response are tactics used BY THE LEFT to collapse a government. Then, just like the Nazis and Bolsheviks, they appear to be the answer and solution to the problem. See my last point above. These guys hate you and I so bad, they will work together to destroy us. Each thinks the other is a useful idiot.

Thank you for letting me vent.

  16. I've said it before. You find a terrorist then you kill him, all his relatives, all of them. And des rate their relatives already in the ground. You destroy any mosque they used for cover. You do this each and every time. It's the only thing that they will understand. You can't defeat fanatics with kindness and candy and free stuff. If the west and Europe do mnot go berserker on terrorists we can't beat them. Our leaders know this but they seem more concerned with their own jobs than their people. Liberals are just suicidal crazy.

Good point about military vs police situation. Good police tactics can squelch violent street crime (more traffic stops, stop and frisk, police anti-gang units) but more is needed to stop terrorists, who use different methods than street criminals. Saw some of that in my old city, they had to set up checkpoints at the entrances to parking lots for public buildings when terrorism became a significant threat.
