NO SECOND GUESSING HERE Lynne Stewart suggested that maintaining the blind sheikh’s “exchange value” was part of her job. “It could be very important that that person is still perceived as worth exchanging, perhaps, for someone else,” she suggested. A year after Rahman was sentenced to life in prison, terrorists from his Muslim Brotherhood splinter organization, the Islamic Group, carried out the Luxor Massacre in Egypt. European tourists had their ears and noses cut off before being killed. The attack had been carried out to take hostages to exchange for Lynne Stewart’s client. A note calling for the release of Rahman was found in a disemboweled body. When asked about the Luxor Massacre, Stewart accused Americans of being “two-faced about violence” adding that, “The basic desire of people to be free hasn’t changed. And I’m not sure that I want to second-guess what methods other people use.” In the massacre that Lynne Stewart refused to second-guess; the methods included...

The Innocence of Liberals
When Charles Woods, the father of Tyrone Woods, one of the Navy SEALS who died fighting in Benghazi, met with Hillary Clinton, she assured him that, “We’re going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video.” And they got him, officially on charges of violating parole, unofficially on charges of violently offending violent Muslims. The woman whose policy had overthrown the Libyan government and then placed a barely defended diplomatic facility in the middle of a city of terrorists, did not promise the grieving father that his son's killers would pay. She promised him that the man who offended his son's killers would pay. Not only would his son be the first casualty of that appeasement policy, but the Constitution that his son had sworn to support and defend would be the second casualty. Mark Basseley Youssef is not the first filmmaker sent to prison by a Democrat in the White House for making the wrong kind of movie that interfered with hi...

A Jewish Avalon
It is only toward the very end of Avalon, the film capturing the disintegration of Jewish family life in America, that the movie gives the closest thing to a clear identification of a thing that it had withheld all along, their Jewish identity, by focusing momentarily on a Star of David on a tombstone. Only in death are the Krichinsky family, who have Americanized their last name to Kirk and Kay, identified fleetingly as Jewish. It is also the only time that they participate in a religious ritual. The Krichinsky family ritual is family. It is a clan that exists for its own sake, its elders revisiting and passing along their fragile memories and transforming them into family traditions. But the family is too fragile to live on memory alone, leaving Sam Krichinsky, its patriarch, in a nursing home, cut off from his family and wishing that he had known everything was going to change so that he would have done a better job of remembering. The Thanksgiving ritual includes Joan Plowri...

The Muslim Suicide Convert
Both of the suicide bombers who struck in Russia were Muslim converts. They follow a long string of Muslim terrorist converts, including the murderers of British soldier Lee Rigby who were sentenced last month and Terry Lee Loewen who plotted to car bomb the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport that same month. Muslim converts engage in terrorism at a higher rate than Muslims. It's gotten so bad that converting to Islam is almost a form of suicide. The popular theory is that Muslim terrorist groups use converts because they blend in better. But in most Western countries, screening by race is nearly illegal and in even in targeted countries where it isn’t, there are usually many members of Muslim ethnic groups in most major cities. There are four reasons for the rise of the Muslim Suicide Convert. Muslim converts are gullible, fanatical, suicidal and expendable. Let's start with the last one first. Muslims usually come from tribal cultures with extended family groups. Despite i...

Disruptive Diversity and Achievement Diversity
The trouble with diversity is in the name. In every area of human endeavor, we prefer quality over quantity. If quality is not a straightforward measure, we make our selections based on our needs. Diversity has no place in such sensible schemes. The purpose of diversity is diversity. It's not to make anything better. It's pure quantity over quality with the quantity being that of exoticism. If the group of people you have employed or picked out of a stock photo to represent what your company might look like if it consisted entirely of stock photo models, isn't sufficiently diverse, then it's bad, regardless of how well it works. Diversity is not necessarily a bad thing. Different people do have different points of view. You wouldn't want a company filled only with only employees under thirty or over ninety. Women have different perspectives than men. Europeans and Asians have different perspectives than Americans. Some of those differences are helpful in som...

Friday Afternoon Roundup - Climate Deniers Deny the Climate
CLIMATE DENIERS DENY THE CLIMATE This summer, MainStream Last First attempted to bring attention to the threat of melting ice by crossing the Northwest Passage in a rowboat. The effort was dubbed as a voyage made possibly only by climate change. Instead it also ran up against the ice that wasn’t there. The entry concluded: “Our message remains unaffected though, bringing awareness to the pressing issues of climate change in the arctic.” In the spring, another Warmist expedition set out to cross Antarctica and “make a decisive contribution to our understanding of the effect of climate change upon the poles.” It lost its leader who came down with frostbite and whose evacuation was delayed by a blizzard. The Magical Thinking of the Left Democrat Blames “Partisanism, Racism, Classicism and Negativism” for Defeat -“It’s been strategized so the only person who will lose in this situation is me,” Dagwan said. President Obie
In 1967, folk singer Arlo Guthrie played a song on a left-wing New York City radio station that was supposed to sum up the cultural difference between the culture and the counterculture. On one side of the moral equation in Alice’s Restaurant you had Office Obie and the nameless army officers who were rulebound fascists and on the other side you had the easygoing hippies who believed in community, hanging out and letting things slide. Culture would drag you into court for littering with twenty seven eight-by-ten color glossy photographs as evidence while counterculture would shrug and invite you to dinner. Culture was bureaucratically and violently absurd. Counterculture was humanely lovingly absurd. That's still the image that the left likes to wear like an old pair of jeans. It's still just a bunch of easygoing fellows out to build community and take on Officer Obie’s senseless repressive rules. But then the counterculture became the culture and the left became Officer Ob...
