Mamdani's people made it very clear that they will end private property in NYC. They will squeeze out the landlords and gobble up all the homes and apartments that are currently being rented. Then they will raise property tax so high those that own will sell or just abandoned their homes and the city will take them over too. It is communism at its finest. Then New York city dwellers will find out what real slum lords they have elected to run (destroy) their city and this will spread throughout the country because the American voter is so dumbed down and naive they fall for campaign rhetoric that promises heaven with the intention of delivering pure hell. If it sounds to good to be true it is and you better run from it as fast as you can.
But remember it wasn’t New York natives that voted for Mamdani it was over educated white rich kids that had moved to New York to start a career and recent immigrants who were often enticed to America with free stuff.
100% spot-on. I’m an ex lefty and read Marx and Mao back in the 70’s. I understand the decades of infiltration. What is happening today is very clear to me, and found it frustrating when people want to shoot the messenger. I think Trump and his executive branch are doing a good job bringing this out now.
Regulating something out of existence is a well-worn tactic.
I remember there was a court case involving “gun-free zones” in which it turned out that under the law’s definition of where such zones were to be implemented, essentially the entire jurisdiction was covered.
When it got to the Supremes, they said, kidding, right? How ‘bout, nuh-uh?
Another Substack I read has suggested that we not distinguish the radical left from the democrats as a whole because eventually democrats evolve to become communists, or euphemistically, the extreme left. Similarly, calling democrats dumbocrats or calling Mamdami Mamdumi makes them less threatening than they really are. As Daniel says, they understand economics quite well and they operate with intention. To think these Marxists do not chuckle when the right tells the voters that taking away our freedoms will destroy liberty, those who make it their mission to install tyranny do a little internal eye roll, chuckle to themselves and probably say "and your point is?..."
Those on the right may believe they can just wait for the fiscal house of cards to collapse and prove once again that communism never works. I think those people misapprehend how long a regime can steal from others before "they eventually run out of other peoples' money."
Someone smarter than I outlined the path to Mamdami's potential success. As the housing inspectors swarm across the city they write citations for required improvements that landlords are obligated to make. Onerous fines are levied daily and of course the buildings never pass inspection even when the repairs are made. Landlords will find it impossible to sell in such a market and eventually the only recourse is to abandon the property. The city claims these "derelict" properties and transfers them to newly minted and politically connected NGOs whose worth is suddenly billions of dollars. With such as asset base and no encumbrances of any kind, they no doubt will be able to acquire massive loans for billions of dollars. With such a tsunami of cash they can freeze rents, offer a few token free or reduced rents with little or no maintenance for years to come, long enough at least to convince voters that everything is working according to plan. Other deep blue cities see the template and before long, a sizeable minority of blue America becomes communistic and the money doesn't run out until the next generation who will know nothing except the 10 or more years of supposedly successful redistribution of wealth to the proletariat. And then the money runs out. By then it's too late for anyone to do anything to reverse course, the social credit system will be firmly entrenched and revolution will be out of the question because everyone relies completely upon the state. And no one lives happily ever after. This scenario is what most frightens me.
I never miss a Greenfield column even though you have such a way of making me so sad. I pray these evil people will fail, fail, fail. Unfortunately, we do have so many unthinking, unknowing, uncaring voters. I'm so old I can remember when it seemed citizens were all patriotic. Those were the days, my friend.

And why not? If you believe the rationale of the regulation, it makes perfect sense. Of course you would be crazy, like everyone else who supports them.
It isn’t mostly ignorance. Mere ignorance doesn’t fight knowledge off. It is the organization of easy hatreds against, in this case, landlords. People aren’t fighting for low rent and good upkeep, they’re looking for excuses to crucify someone.
And as always, they won’t be happy until they blame the Jews.

They were one fifth of the eligible voters, with a lesser fifth voting for one of the two boobies and three fifths not bothering to cast a ballot. If we can't oust the Islamo-communist in three years, then the city is lost. Until then, I'm hoping.
