Communism. properly understood, is stateless. I rather doubt that the surveys relied on in this article revealed support for stateless communal ownership of property. Instead, they were revealing support for the state ownership of the means of production, which is socialism. Today, both the right and left abuse that term to mean high taxes with robust welfare state. I submit that while actual DSA leaders are socialists with Marxist and therefore communist sympathies, the vast majority of supporters really just want to tax rich people and get free stuff.
Like all communist leaders they promise heaven and deliver hell. And these young folks will find out what a mistake they made sadly when it is too. The broken family unit in this country is a huge part of the problem. Until we get back to God, family, country we WILL see America become a communist country. We are already a socialist country and that is just a precursor to communism.
Communism/Socialism is a lie. Socialism is the rainbow to Communism (the pot of gold). Both are lies to opiate the masses to the true intention of establishing an aristocracy,.
Well, certainly the atrophy of family in the West has been tragic, and the social and spiritual costs enormous. But I think the cause is more easily traceable to secularism, a phenomenon embraced equally by Marxist socialists and Randian libertarians.
And while you and I might agree that the size of the federal government is greater than optimal, we are manifestly not a socialist country. Business regulation in the US sometimes gets over its skis, but it does not remotely amount to government ownership or control.
Also, while Marx understood socialism to be a transitional economic condition "precursing" stateless communism, many contemporary socialists reject Marxist dogmas such as the state "withering away" into stateless communism, believing instead that the state should exist in order to allocate economic resources equitably through planned economies and the control and ownership of the means of production -- something that does not remotely describe the current American economic system.
Democratic Socialists view socialism as an economic system that is perfectly compatible with a democratic political system, and in theory they are correct, but in practice democracies will always eventually reject socialism simply because it always produces miserable outcomes, which is exactly why Britain, France, and the Nordic countries reversed course in the 1970s and 80s.
IMO what the US needs is a Democratic Party that resembles European Social Democrat Parties, which support free markets coupled with robust welfare states. While such a US party would not appeal to me, it would more responsibly reflect and represent the concerns of American youth as described in the article.
I have for decades considered college to be: Communist finishing school. If they didn't get in K-12 they will surely convert you in college. Parents need to really rethink the value in sending their kids to college. There are only a handful of careers that actually require a college degree. In todays world skip college get an entry level position, keep your nose clean and climb the ladder. It is how many of us did it and were successful. What is the difference if you start out working in Starbucks right after school or end up working in Starbucks after you graduate college as so many kids these days are forced to do. The difference is about $100K in debt after you get out of college (that kids don't think they should have to pay). They think that the day after graduation they will land a big time job only to find out there are only so many big paying jobs to be had and they end up working where they would have worked straight out of high school. But anyone that takes and entry level job right out of high school by the time their friends graduate college (with a ton of college debt) by being dependable, putting your heart and soul in the Starbucks job that high school graduate could end up being the college graduates boss. We have been made to think if our kids don't go to college there is something wrong with them. Too stupid to get into college? Well believe me I know a lot college kids that could not pass a 3rd grade math test. Skip college, go to a trade school or get an entry level job in a company that has the possibility for a good employee to advance. I am a high school graduate and started out as records clerk, 10 years later I was promoted to a Manager position and when I retired I was making a 6 figure salary. I was self motivated, dependable, polite, a self starter, did not need direct supervision and was determined to succeed. And it all starts at home!!!
I just read the original 1952 Immagration laws and it clearly states that immigrants who lie about their paperwork can be deported and that if you DO NOT ACCEPT OUR FORM OF GOVERNMENT THEN YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STAY HERE MUCHLESS STAY IN CONGRESS OR MAMDUMBASS AS MAYOR. PLUS IT CLEARLY STATES NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO HARBOR ILLEGALS THAT WHO EVER DOES IS DEPORTABLE. READ IT!
Communism is a tool of the elites to re-establish the British aristocracy which saw its influence beginning to wane in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
I lived in China 2016-21. It’s worrisome bordering on frightening that there’s that amount. I’ll bet few of them ever lived in a communist country. Because had they? They’d know what I know and although violent crime is very low and security is high, the ‘hidden dangers’ (as said by the people) are ever present. That’s the CCP. Surprisingly, less than 100 million are CCP or the 1.45 billion PRC. I love the Chinese people and their history and much of their culture. The government? No.
Maybe something went wrong with the Democratic system 🤔
That might explain why some individuals think an alternative system could be more effective, or they might be easily swayed by communist and Islamic propaganda.
Socialism results in misery, inevitably, in every one of its permutations (Communism, fascism, utopianism, Democratic Socialism, etc.), but it sounds good up front to the young and the idealistic who have never experienced it. I think some of them mean well (some of them don’t), but only the lived experience can redeploy their idealism towards fundamental principles of liberty and equality (capitalism? natural rights? freedom of opportunity and inequality of results?). Of course, there are other forces in play as well that use socialism as the means by which to abolish capitalism, individual liberty, popular sovereignty (We the People)... they are always out there, always present but of fluctuating influence depending upon the stage of socialism’s life cycle in which we find ourselves. They are not persuadable because socialism is not their goal – it is merely a means.
Socialism has a two-three generational revival rate, being resuscitated once there are enough people of voting age in the body politic who have never experienced it. Sooner or later, in some form large or small, they get their wish, the inevitable lessons are learned once more... and socialism is again rejected by large majorities – for two or three generations...
Goal Number 15 from the remarks in yhe Congressional Record is to capture one or both of the two Political Parties. They have achieved their goal and many others.

That’s crazy scary!

This is what happens when the dominant means of education are Howard Zinn and Herbert Marcuse

Yes indeed!
