I never understood why a friend of mine became so vehement when I mentioned to her that one of my favorite news sources was The Free Press. She began by telling me that TFP was not journalism at all, and insisted that Bari Weiss was a terrible reporter who didn’t understand her own profession (the friend is a former journalist who switched careers and became a university professor of feminist Chicano literature). After reading this I now understand where and how my hard core Democrat friend was radicalized. I live outside of the USA so I miss out on most mainstream news stories, but this certainly opened my eyes as to just how successful their propaganda has been over the years.

Firing people who hold critical positions and make hundreds of thousands or millions a year is not easy. Employment laws are one issue but the biggest problem is because you need experienced staff ready to hit the ground running and take over operations immediately.

The news clips I see in a youtube review/blurb, or what I see if I happen to be at an airport, eating establishment, or before my inlaws died with Fox News on all the time, etc. just reinforces the correct decision to ditch the mainstream news. I had to laugh at the clip I saw of Newt Gingrich being shut down twice in one interview when he took a disparaging swipe at George Soros. He looked like he'd swallowed a bug. And Fox News' 2020 election coverage calling Arizona for Biden minutes after the close of elections... The fix was in. It was just maddening to see my inlaws swear Fox news was the truth. Gah.

I was a journalism student in high school in the early 80's, and had a teacher who pushed for, and expected hard facts. I started reading newspapers back then, blissfully unaware of agendas. It's just gotten so bad that I finally stopped my subscribing to them in my late 40's. And that was after a decade of holding my nose.
