I found the BQ Expressway so frigging rough & tore up, my CB radio pulled right out of it's mount. The delivery to a Queens lumber yard was met with such an attitude from the idiots in the office, I thought I'd have to unload it myself. Luckily the two black men in the yard figured out I was just a regular guy, trying to make a living like they were and together we got the job done.
After a final drop in Moriches Long Island, I escaped NY to a Jersey Turnpike rest area via the Trog's Neck Bridge and the nightmare which is the G. Washington Bridge.
The next morning brought further adventures in the Mob Port of Newark where non-connected, independent truck drivers receive "special" treatment. Took me ALL day to get an empty container out of that place because no one told me how easily a couple $100 bills can cut "red tape."
There are many, truly beautiful parts of NY & NJ, but you couldn't get me back to the "city" for love nor money.Mack in Tucsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11368628.post-25704298452345459432012-07-04T15:47:53.777-04:002012-07-04T15:47:53.777-04:00Giuliani was the only mayor in my lifetime (58 yea...Giuliani was the only mayor in my lifetime (58 years) worth a damn.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11368628.post-54047436727226268982012-07-04T13:40:12.848-04:002012-07-04T13:40:12.848-04:00OWS are gone because their backers/financiers have...OWS are gone because their backers/financiers have decided that their funds are best spent elsewhere in bringing about the destruction of the US.

As you correctly predict, the next Mayor is likely to be a liberal - Quinn?. This was the time of Ed Koch and John Lindsey. I remember hard-hats laying into the left's anti-war protesters, too. The Citiservice Tower (70 Pine Street), is now the AIG building, and is my favorite building on "Wall Street." I watched the massive hole for the WTC being excavated, and marveled at how PATH trains had to be put on trestles to cross that hole. To paraphrase that old song, "Thanks for the memories."
