Publicly, he bashes Xi and China, while his Quincy Institute defends the People’s Republic of China and\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/2021\/11\/squad-joins-china-appeasement-caucus-daniel-greenfield\/\" style=\"box-sizing: border-box; color: #801717;\"\u003Eadvocates alongside\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;the “Squad” against any anti-China measures.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 1.5rem;\"\u003EWyss has plowed a fortune into American politics without ever even going on the record as to whether he holds American citizenship. Meanwhile Wyss'\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/the-hub-project\/\" style=\"box-sizing: border-box; color: #801717;\"\u003EHub Project\u003C\/a\u003E, operating out of STF, set up fronts like Floridians for a Fair Shake, Keep Iowa Healthy, and North Carolinians for a Fair Economy that went after Republicans. This isn’t politics: it’s a hostile foreign takeover.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 1.5rem;\"\u003ESoros and Omidyar both benefited from economic disruption, technological and financial, that enabled them to get rich while inflicting heavy costs on existing industries and businesses. American industries and companies made them fabulously rich, but their horizons have always been international, and they view America as little more than just another tool for their visions.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 1.5rem;\"\u003EWhen Americans, the ordinary sort of people, don’t go all along, they manipulate them. Despite their official fealty to democracy, to open societies, and public discourse, their dark money investments reflect their determination to sideline the public and impose their will on America.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 1.5rem;\"\u003EDemocrats often complain about money in politics, but they are the worst offenders. Some of the richest men and the wealthiest zip codes buy up elections for them across the country. And the real story, as usual, was not what was on the page, but what had been deliberately left out. Reuters described the Renew America Movement as a group of Never Trump Republicans “whose leadership includes former Republican Governors Christine Todd Whitman of New Jersey and Bill Weld of Massachusetts.” Hardly a single story mentioned the actual leaders.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Renew America Movement was co-founded by Evan McMullin (pictured above) and his running mate Mindy Finn. Its national political director, Joel Searby, who is quoted in the media's writeups, was the chief strategist for the McMullin campaign. Donations to RAM go through Stand Up Republic, which is the anti-Trump group that McMullin and Finn originally set up. The press release for the new pro-Democrat campaign even came from Stand Up Republic. The media actually had to work not to mention McMullin or Stand Up Republic in its stories about the RAM campaign.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAnd the media did a fine job of lying by omission to the public in order to elect Democrats.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhy not mention McMullin and Stand Up Republic? McMullin launching another anti-Republican effort wouldn’t be news. His presidential bid was a pathetic disaster and his current Utah Senate campaign isn’t likely to fare much better. In 2017, he was described as owing $670,000 from his presidential campaign. That still appears to be the case. By 2018, there were still complaints that he still owed staffers tens of thousands of dollars and that the financial mess \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/04\/18\/evan-mcmullin-owes-campaign-staff\/\"\u003Ewas due to\u003C\/a\u003E \"frivolous spending by McMullin and his campaign manager Joel Searby.\"\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EYou can see why the media is playing up the former GOP governors and burying the basic information about the exciting new plot by Never Trumpers to help Democrats win elections.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EStand Up Republic’s anti-Trump fronts multiply like rabbits or Communist front groups during the Cold War. Searby also created Christians Against Trumpism \u0026amp; Political Extremism whose leadership includes David French’s wife and Vincent Bacote: a theologian who suggests that all white\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/theopolisinstitute.com\/conversations\/from-once-upon-a-time-to-happily-ever-after-and-how-to-get-there-from-here-a-response-to-vincent-bacote\/\"\u003E people are racist\u003C\/a\u003E. Then there’s the Centrist Project, where Searby was a senior strategist, which was renamed United America, and whose site closely resembles Stand Up Republic.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMcMullin is also on the board of advisers for Republican Political Alliance for Integrity and Reform (REPAIR) alongside Anthony Scaramucci and Michael Steele, who are also on board RAM, and Miles Taylor, the \"Anonymous\" co-creator of RAM. McMullin and Finn are the founding signatories for A Call for American Renewal which was promoted by Republicans for Integrity. Some of these groups are little more than a website. Sometimes not even that.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAs the New York Times recently noted, there seem to be more anti-Trump groups than anti-Trump Republicans. Like their leftist fellow travelers, there are a plethora of PACs and groups that do little more than churn out social media clickbait while cashing in on Trump.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIt would be hard to pretend that this house of cards that seems to exist to do little more than collect names for mailing lists and solicit donations is in any way newsworthy.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBut there is also a more important reason that goes to the rotten heart of the operation.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EStand Up Republic\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/capitalresearch.org\/article\/another-nevertrump-network-is-receiving-left-wing-cash\/\"\u003E had scored \u003C\/a\u003E$800,000 from Pierre Omidyar's Democracy Fund Voice and $750,000 from the Hewlett Foundation. Omidyar, a Franco-Persian billionaire, is the \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/cms.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/2020\/03\/bernies-billionaire-how-richest-man-hawaii-funds-daniel-greenfield\"\u003Erichest man in Hawaii \u003C\/a\u003Eand the digital version of George Soros. His projects include the pro-terror site, The Intercept, and a plan to “Reimagine Capitalism”. Hewlett is a more conventional leftist setup.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe “principled” Never Trumper network championing “moderates” to “heal our country” is actually backed by the same money as Black Lives Matter radicals and racists.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Hewlett Foundation is one of the backers of the Democracy Frontlines Fund which poured tens of millions into a variety of black nationalist groups \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/philanthropynewsdigest.org\/news\/new-funder-collaborative-commits-36-million-to-black-movement-leaders?_ga=2.181031975.1051945020.1633909145-1584562099.1633543082\"\u003Eincluding\u003C\/a\u003E the Movement for Black Lives.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is a BLM umbrella group which is backed by billion-dollar leftist foundations like the Ford Foundation. Considering its wealthy anti-Israel backers, it's unsurprising that M4BL has embraced the antisemitic BDS movement, falsely accused Israel of genocide, and tried to oust any Jewish groups that wouldn’t join them in destroying Israel.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Omidyar Network promised last year that it was committing $500,000 to \"racial justice\" and focusing on 5 groups including the Movement for Black Lives. It also couldn't let the anniversary of September 11 pass without announcing a joint initiative with Soros, the Ford Foundation, and other leftists to pour money into Islamic groups fighting against America’s counterterrorism.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOmidyar is also\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/defending-democracy-together\/\"\u003E the sugar daddy\u003C\/a\u003E of the Never Trumpers, \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/02\/19\/based-on-tax-filings-bill-kristols-been-a-democrat-for-years\/\"\u003Efunding\u003C\/a\u003E The Bulwark together with the Hewlett Foundation. Omidyar's Democracy Fund has provided\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/defending-democracy-together\/\"\u003E $1.6 million\u003C\/a\u003E to Bill Kristol's Defending Democracy Together. It's all just Democrats funding Democrats... together.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ENever Trumpers keep insisting that they’re fighting against “extremism” and “insurrection”, but the money that funds them is dirty cash that backs terrorism and insurrection against America.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe motto of the Black Lives Matter racist movement comes from Assata Shakur. Shakur, a wanted cop killer, was a member of the Black Liberation Army, a Marxist terrorist group, and is hiding out in Cuba. To black nationalists her slogan is the equivalent of the white supremacist \"14 words\" and it was dedicated to black nationalist terrorists including Mark Essex.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EEssex \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/2020\/10\/black-lives-matter-leaders-support-violent-riots-daniel-greenfield\/\"\u003Eopened fire on New Year’s Eve \u003C\/a\u003Ein New Orleans killing, among others, a honeymooning couple. Betty Steagall was shot in the back of her head while embracing her murdered husband. The racist terrorist left a Black Liberation flag lying near the corpses of the doctor and his wife.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThis is the gang of racist cop killers and violent murders that Never Trumpers are allied with.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EShakur and her motto are used by a variety of the black nationalist groups that share funding sources with Stand Up Republic including BLM. But it just gets worse from there.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Hewlett Fund provided funding to Repaired Nations whose virtual Virtual Pan African Solidarity Conference included speakers like Inem Richardson of the All African People's Revolutionary Party. The AAPR, which recently sent congratulations to “the Communist Party of China for 100 Years of Existence Fighting to Liberate China and the Whole of Humanity'', has a mission of \"unifying\" Africa under \"scientific socialism\". It also recently declared that \"Palestinians have every right to militant resistance to the apartheid regime of 'Israel'\".\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThat is what happens when foundations get into the black nationalist and terrorist business.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIt’s also the sewer in which Never Trumpers swim, occasionally surfacing to scold and tout their principles, without addressing where the money financing their operations really comes from.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EStand Up Republic and The Bulwark claim that what they stand for is moderation.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBut the sorts of lefties who fund Black Lives Matter and groups that embrace Marxist terrorism are not moderates. Never Trumpers don’t draw their support from moderate Democrat funders, but the billionaires and foundations who fund the very worst extremists and radicals on the Left.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhy are they funding Never Trumpers? Because the Biden administration, like the Obama administration, is running their program of racial division, socialism, and authoritarianism.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ERenew America Movement is working to protect a Democrat legislative majority to enact a radical agenda that includes federalizing elections, eliminating the filibuster, and packing the Senate and the Supreme Court while warning about the Republican “threat to political norms”.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe latest Never Trumper shell game depends on trotting out old Rockefeller Republicans as fronts for a radical operation of racists and terrorists whose goal is destroying America.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ENo one was fooled the last time around. And, like most purity tests, was about testing a willingness to hate people and endorse a new extremist position on demand.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-rwDjUwkTjBE\/YYFpbeCiCJI\/AAAAAAAATjo\/1CmKd_gJMUcWraLZSdkBY2pRPzXzscZBwCNcBGAsYHQ\/s761\/sunrise%2Bframe.png\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-size: medium;\"\u003E\u003Cimg border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"391\" data-original-width=\"761\" height=\"164\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-rwDjUwkTjBE\/YYFpbeCiCJI\/AAAAAAAATjo\/1CmKd_gJMUcWraLZSdkBY2pRPzXzscZBwCNcBGAsYHQ\/s320\/sunrise%2Bframe.png\" width=\"320\" \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-size: medium;\"\u003EPurity tests that have no constructive purpose except to undermine and oust a leadership that is insufficiently radical have become commonplace in the Reign of Terror era of American politics.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhen Democrats adopt socialism, endorse the elimination of the police, tear down the statues of Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln, champion critical race theory, and insist that there’s no such thing as men and women, it’s as the result of an escalating series of purity tests.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHating Jews is just the latest progressive purity test.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ESunrise DC declared that it would not participate in events with what it falsely claimed were Zionist groups, but were actually, mostly fellow leftists who hate Israel as much as they do.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/2021\/03\/national-council-jewish-womens-apologists-anti-daniel-greenfield\/\"\u003ENational Council of Jewish Women\u003C\/a\u003E, one of the three groups singled out by Sunrise DC, had supported or allied with Linda Sarsour, Peter Beinart, and Rep. Ilhan Omar. The NCJW had gone as far out of its way to align with the Hamas caucus as it was possible without actually turning into an anti-Israel protest group. Revealingly, nothing it had done was good enough.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIt never is.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhy beat up on Sarsour and Omar’s pals? Sunrise DC was actually imposing an anti-Semitism purity test on the Declaration for American Democracy, a pro-election rigging coalition. And true to form, its ultimatum was met with an uncomfortable refusal by other leftist groups and politicians to either condemn anti-Semitism or condemn the Jews. The purity test had succeeded.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBlack Lives Matter D.C. swiftly jumped in to declare that Sunrise D.C's \"statement wasn't anti-Semitic, no matter how many times oppressors want to repeat it.\" This was as much a threat to any leftist, prog, or liberal who might want to stand up to anti-Semitism, as it was to Jews. Fail the anti-Semitism purity test and Black Lives Matter will damn you as an oppressor.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EEven before the BLM threat, the message had been received. And the outcome noted.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe same Democrat establishment that tossed away American history, including its own, opposition to racism, support for women’s rights, and dozens of other things that it used to claim were principles, but actually turned out to be mere shibboleths, was ready to throw Jews on the bonfire of its convictions. Not that it should have surprised anyone except Jewish leftists.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe anti-Semitism purity test was inevitable based on the history of the last two centuries and a much more recent history of modern institutional anti-Semitism at colleges and universities.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ESunrise DC and BLM DC were running the same play that their members had likely taken part in on college campuses where Jewish students are routinely ousted from student government and campus positions on the pretext that they must be Zionists. Like safe spaces and pronoun police, what happens on campus doesn’t stay on campus. Only now the entire civic space is playing the role of the helpless university administrators who don’t want to offend the radicals.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe leap of these anti-Semitic purges from the campus to major leftist advocacy groups foreshadows the next stage of the leap when they become a fundamental reality of public life in the institutions, private and public, controlled by the new generation of identity politics leftists.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHating Jews, under the putative guise of opposing Zionism, is about to become a core progressive value. And those values have become the moral code of the ruling class.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Jewish groups that failed to fight campus anti-Semitism are about to live under it.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EA movement like this is not just the product of a few activists with a social media account. Nor is the evolution of the anti-Semitism purity test a tantrum being thrown by a few obscure groups.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhen you follow the money, it becomes all too obvious what is really taking place here.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Sunrise Movement is \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/point\/2021\/10\/pro-china-environmentalist-group-demands-boycott-daniel-greenfield\/\"\u003Efunded by\u003C\/a\u003E George Soros and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, among others. Soros and the \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.tabletmag.com\/sections\/news\/articles\/rockefeller-brothers-fund-gets-behind-bds\"\u003ERockefeller Brothers Fund\u003C\/a\u003E are the premier funders of the anti-Israel movement in America. It’s unlikely that the Sunrise Movement, an environmental group that previously showed little interest in Israel, suddenly decided to boycott a completely unrelated rally because organizations with the “J” word in their name were going to be present.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ELikewise, it’s implausible that the Movement for Black Lives, a BLM umbrella group, launched its support for BDS and opposition to the Jewish State, for reasons unrelated to its close ties to the Ford Foundation whose own funding of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish activities are legendary.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe rise of what some have called a new anti-Semitism was not simply an activist phenomenon. Nor is it especially clear that there is an authentic grassroots leftist movement that can be separated from the billionaire donors and foundations who finance the groups that fund it. Much as Soviet front groups couldn’t be properly detached from the Old Left, the foundations that serve a similar role can’t be detached from the New Left. Tracing the money is difficult enough, but determining when the foundations fund ideas or originate them can be all but impossible.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhat is clearer is that leftist anti-Semitism is a top-down, not a bottom-up, phenomenon.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAmerican Jews have tried to convince themselves that individual incidents, first on campuses and then in the streets, violence and vandalism under the guise of political correctness, did not make a pattern. They have gone on trying to ignore these “random events” while refusing to connect the dots, and trying to silence those who were connecting the dots for them.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAnd when they finally do connect the dots, they’re eager to blame Israel, not the anti-Semites.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBut the Left was purging Jews before there was a modern State of Israel on the grounds that they were reactionaries, bourgeois, cosmopolitans, or any number of similar accusations.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EZionism is just the latest politically correct excuse for hating Jews. And it’s not the only one.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/2021\/03\/national-council-jewish-womens-apologists-anti-daniel-greenfield\/\"\u003ENational Council of Jewish Women\u003C\/a\u003E, much like the anti-Israel activists of the Religious Action Center of the Reform movement, might wonder why they were targeted. If they had any sense of history, including that of their own, they would know that the whole point of purity tests is to reduce the base to mindless radicalism by convincing them to embrace what they once knew to be wrong. That includes convincing people to hate others and to hate themselves.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EEach purity test passed destroys the morals, principles, and basic decency of human beings. It’s how normal people turn into the howling mobs we read about in history books or watch in historical newsreels. “What kind of people could do that?” we wonder.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe answer is all around us.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ECompelling people who used to be Democrats, then liberals, then progressives, and finally dogmatic leftists to jump through one more hoop makes them more willing to do anything.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAnd if there’s anything that history teaches about the Left, from Stalin to Mao, from Che to Pol Pot, from Kim Jong-Il to Mengistu there will come a time when ordinary people will indeed be expected to do “anything”, whether it’s to kill or to be killed in the name of the revolution.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAnti-Semitism is just one more stop on the extremist expressway. Like critical race theory and much of the rest of identity politics, it divides people into those who deserve to be beaten and those who deserve to do the beating to distract everyone from the fact that the leftist ideology of victims and oppressors is really about creating plenty more of both as grist for its political mill.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe Sunrise Movement claims that the planet is on the verge of destruction and Black Lives Matter insists that the greatest threat to black people are police officers, both are absurd lies, but like anti-Semitism they’re really weaponized distractions for a massive power grab.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMeanwhile the same American Jewish establishment that was convinced that the answer to anti-Semitism was social justice can’t help but double down on it even as it is becoming inescapably obvious that social justice isn’t the answer to anti-Semitism: it is anti-Semitism.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOrganizations like NCJW or RAC embrace the extreme margins of the Left and are baffled when the anti-Semitism from those margins not only intensifies, but burns hotter than ever. The purity tests intensify with each concession: each willingness to embrace Sarsour, Omar, and whatever leftist social justice bigot follows on their heels only leads to worse hatred.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe leftist anti-Semitism that began on college campuses is defining a leftist America.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Ci\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/sultanknish.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EDaniel Greenfield\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;is a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Both framed their rise from poverty into the middle class in the 1980s as a climb up the ladder of education and hard work. As they climbed, they were inundated with racist talking points about black people refusing to climb, the ones who were irresponsibly strung out on heroin or crack, who enjoyed stealing and being criminally dependent on the hard-earned money of climbing Americans like them,” Kendi writes. “My parents, along with many others in the new Black middle class, consumed these ideas.”\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhat makes these ideas racist? Believing that you can get ahead through hard work is whiteness talking. And expecting good habits to lead to good outcomes is racist because it ignores the systemic racism that makes success impossible for black people. Kendi’s parents, Larry and Carol Rogers, an accountant and business analyst, not only bought into the middle class dream, but they worked hard, and they succeeded at giving him a comfortable childhood.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\"My parents... fed me the mantra that education and hard work would uplift me, just as it had uplifted them,\" Kendi agonizingly recalls. And if nothing else, he partially disproved them, becoming enormously successful on the back of education, but a worthless one in identity politics, and on denying the value of hard work.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\"My parents—even from within their racial consciousness—were susceptible to the racist idea that it was laziness that kept black people down,\" he recalls.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EKendi’s problem is laziness, but it’s a particularly white kind of laziness. How to Be an Antiracist, like most critical race theory texts, leans heavily on the personal narrative of his particularly uninteresting life. Kendi manufactures victimhood out of thin air, when his father waves to him on the basketball court, he suggests that might have gotten him lynched or killed by the police.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHis grandmother dies after a struggle with Alzheimer’s. \"A disease more prevalent among African Americans,\" Kendi notes. \"There may be no more consequential white privilege than life itself.\" Black people have a 3.5 percent higher prevalence of Alzheimer’s than white people for a disease that is the fifth most common cause of death among American senior citizens.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhen your claim to oppression is your grandmother’s Alzheimer’s, you’re low on material.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBut Kendi’s story is a familiar one to generations of white and then minority immigrants where the first generation labors hard to succeed, and then sends its kids to college only to have them come back as radicals who complain that their parents sold out by abandoning their dreams.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe old boomer paradigm that fed sixties white radicalism has kicked in among minority millennials of the upper middle class with a vengeance. The new black nationalist surge on college campuses largely owes its growth to privileged black men and women like Kendi, whose parents took the corporate route, while the kids rebelled and went into Black Studies.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E“I always wonder what would have been if my parents had not let their reasonable fears stop them from pursuing their dreams,” Kendi whines. “Instead, Ma settled for a corporate career in healthcare technology. Dad settled for an accounting career. They entered the American middle class”.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EKendi’s racialism is reducible to that cliched radicalism of a son embarrassed by his insufficiently woke parents. It’s about as white as anything. And so is Kendi’s career which has taken him from condemning corporations to producing diversity content for corporations. Like most professional radicals, he wants to overthrow the system by becoming the system.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHow to Be an Antiracist’s rants against “assimilationism” echo seventies black nationalism through modern personal identity politics that demands we acknowledge everyone’s identity. Whether it’s white people who insist that they’re Koreans, men who claim to be women, or corporate drones who insist they’re radicals, everyone wants to be who they aren’t.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EKendi’s fake African identity is a familiar brand of identity politics, but born out of the same shallow narcissism of a comfortable generation that seeks meaning in fake identities. A middle class kid named Henry Rogers is reborn as a black nationalist named Kendi. But the fake new identity doesn’t make him more authentic, but less so. The only way to assert a fake identity is for the man in the mask to go on a rampage against his authentic roots and his old past self.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIf Obama’s racial memoirs were at least aspirational, Kendi’s is anti-aspirational.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBlack people, whether it’s Kendi’s own parents, or black leaders from W.E. DuBois to Eleanor Holmes Norton are guilty of racism for urging achievement. Asking anyone, especially a member of a minority group, to work harder is racist. Suggesting that black people have problems that are caused by anything other than systemic racism is assimilationist.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAnd yet Kendi’s entire worldview, despite its trappings of sham Africanism, is white.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIt’s not some imaginary whiteness, but that of academic identity politics which is absurdly white. Kendi’s parents may have been black, despite some distant white ancestor whom he makes much of, but his entire value system is derived from white political correctness.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHe arrived at college \"as a racist, sexist homophobe\", Kendi writes. The fault was, as usual, his middle class parents. \"Dad’s sexist ideas demanded he lead and Ma’s sexist ideas submitted. She would call him the head of the household. He would accept the calling.\" Horror of horrors.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EKendi’s parents “demonized” single mothers, along with drug dealers and criminals. He blames Reagan and internalized whiteness, but the black opposition to crime preceded Reagan and was a matter of basic self-interest that united the NAACP, the Nation of Islam, and everything in between. It took white people to redefine drug dealers as victims of white oppression.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe cult of the criminal in black activist circles is not a reflection of any organic movement within the black community, but the imposition of a white Marxist perspective. The collapse of support for police defunding in the black community in every poll shows just how alien it is. It’s every bit as alien as Kendi’s hostility to black masculinity which is equally white and assimilationist.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHow to Be an Antiracist is meant to be part memoir, but Kendi doesn’t have much of a story to tell. That’s surprisingly commonplace among critical race theory memorists whose lack of interesting personal content, beginning with Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me, has only made their works more successful. If Obama’s memoirs offered elements of the exotic, the black middle class activist against whiteness succeeds because his story is familiarly white.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWe have come a long way from Eldridge Cleaver’s Soul on Ice or Alex Haley’s dubious Malcolm X biography. Today’s black nationalist is a suburban college kid nurtured by a middle class two-parent family who denounces the suburbs, the middle class, and families like his as racist.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBut the familiar problem, which Kendi only loosely describes in his chapter on dueling consciousness, and which is better embodied by the title of Black-ish, is that the generation of middle class black parents who kept their children safe from crime (Kendi’s father put up a basketball court in their backyard because he was worried about his son getting shot) succeeded all too well. Like too many generations of Irish, Italian, Jewish, Latino, and Asian parents, they raised radical woke snowflakes who are good for little except complaining.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAssimilationism has done its job all too well. The trouble is that the engines of assimilationism, universities, mass culture, and the upper middle class are assimilating the new generation out of America rather than into it, breeding dissatisfaction and nurturing radicalism as their identity.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ERevolutions are made by the prosperous, not the dispossessed. Lenin, a member of a noble family, warred on the nobility. Castro, the son of a plantation owner, fought the plantations. Mao, the son of a landlord, oversaw the mass murder of landlords. The Left makes children into the enemies of the values of their parents. And How to Be an Antiracist is really a very old story about the resentments of middle class children who never really learned how hard life can be.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIbram X. Kendi calls everything he doesn’t like racist. “Racist and antiracist are not fixed identities. We can be racist one minute and an antiracist the next,” he argues. Racism, like most identity politics tropes, is everywhere and nowhere. It’s an identity politics weapon that is an attack on identity while claiming to be a defense against attacks on identity.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMostly racism consists of the common sense approaches of his parents to dealing with a dangerous world while antiracism consists of his clueless disregard for how life really works.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EKendi complains about the “constant fearmongering about Black drug dealers, robbers, killers,” of his parents, but young black men are far more likely to be killed by the former than by the police whom he and the Black Lives Matter movement fearmonger endlessly about.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHis parents made a difficult journey that he does not understand and has no concept of how difficult it would be to recreate in his own privileged circumstances. That’s the same perch which countless of his white leftist peers occupy. It’s no wonder that he’s so popular with them.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EHow to Be an Antiracist doesn’t convey a racial crisis, but the crisis of an American upper middle class which has lost touch with its own roots and whose children have become an enemy of its aspirational values. That, more than anything else, is leading the country into the kind of shopworn Marxism that Kendi and other radicals peddle as narcissistic identity politics.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EDefining everyone, including his parents, as racists, interpreting and reinterpreting the world through academic lenses, is the hobby of privileged people who don’t have real problems.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIbram X.
