Either we will move further n the direction of controlled, statist economy, or we may elect a leader who is strong enough to us back to a free market economy.
Isn't the regimen through which Bain has improved faltering companies exactly what needs to be done to the federal government?
Perhaps Mr. Romney's defensibilty is stronger than he is being credit for. Maybe we need a President who knows how to make informed decisions about which fats to trim and which leans to retain.
Redundancy is a drag on productivity in both the private and the public sector. We just may need a President who can handle these hard choices without caving to the bureaucracy. This was my reply this morning:

"The Republicans I'd vote for are not candidates: John Bolton and Alan West. There are no other Republicans currently duking it out in the primaries that I'd vote for. Gingrich, Perry and Santorum are "social conservatives" and clones of the Bushes, that is, religious conservatives. Santorum has called Sharia law "evil," but he and Gingrich regard Islam as a rival faith, that's all. It explains their passionate condemnation of it. They're beholden to evangelicals and fundamentalists and that's their appeal. Gingrich and Santorum would try to insinuate Christian ethics into government (although that's already there, the altruist ethic is the foundation of the welfare state, they just don't agree that it should be "secular"). Ron Paul says the right things about fiscal policies but that's from a strictly libertarian playbook; his foreign policy is out to lunch, and I've always wondered by Obama just didn't appoint him Secretary of Non-Defense.

Paul's biggest danger is that he might siphon off enough votes in November that would give Obama a second term, which would be the end of the U.S. I suspect the SOB knows it. Romney is the gray flannel suit candidate, an establishment conservative whose biggest liability is Massachusetts-Care, a precursor of ObamaCare. He's shifty and waits until he and his advisers see what bothers voters the most and then pronounces a position on the issue. He's a follower, not a "leader." He's much like that nonentity "Head of State" in Atlas Shrugged, Mr. Thompson. He's not an ideologue; he just "goes with the flow."

There are no viable alternatives on the political scene here. I wish I could report otherwise, but that's the situation here. It's frightening. Yaron Brook remarked that come November, just to get Obama out of office, one may need to vote holding one's nose. But frankly I don't think I could pinch mine hard enough. Think being between rocks and hard places.Edward Clinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12160209827969614964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11368628.post-54155862750453359442012-01-10T01:45:21.591-05:002012-01-10T01:45:21.591-05:00You are so right Lemon. Articles such as this truly do help me.

"It's the Kerry disease, and between his French, his flip flopping and his hair, Romney seems to have his own "I was for it before I was against it" problem. He compensates for his musical chairs politics by suddenly telling everyone how he really feels in the worst way possible. For now Romney hasn't generated his own, "I was for it before I was against it" quote, but the way he's going it's only a matter of time."

For the non-politician there is nothing wrong with saying I was wrong, but I can't think of a single politician who will admit that they were wrong. They seem to think there is something dangerous about admitting they were wrong.

It probably does make them feel vulnerable because when you admit you were wrong the inevitable action people expect is for the person to do the right thing.

I agree with you 100-percent Daniel re the pandering and Romney's fake empathy for people who have lost or risk losing their jobs. Mr. Silver Spoon's recitation of America the Beautiful made me sick, especially compared to Rick Santorum's comments about his father working in a coal mine.

He just doesn't get it.

I had this discussion a few years ago about the difference between being a politician and a public servant. He considered himself the later and has now become a politician whom I now have zero respect for.Keli Atahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05089132216830000713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11368628.post-66885425117678324262012-01-10T00:51:42.070-05:002012-01-10T00:51:42.070-05:00There isn't one Republican candidate without s...There isn't one Republican candidate without some serious problems.
The field on both sides, Dem and Rep. is just awful.
It will boil down to voting for the least offensive of the bunch and that will be hard to gauge.Chana @ Lemon Lime Moonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11656854855385193867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11368628.post-86411094225196601642012-01-10T00:14:03.860-05:002012-01-10T00:14:03.860-05:00I'm not following this issue at all and so for...I'm not following this issue at all and so for me it is a report.
