AND AWAY WE GO...
As regular readers know I am headed out to LA to speak at the Skirball Center on "Israel 50 Years Later". The event presented by Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and the David Horowitz Freedom Center will take place at 7 PM on Tuesday March 20th at 2701 Sepulveda Blvd.
You can register and find more information at the Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors website. Here's a brief excerpt of the topic.
We read the headlines and each day brings the news that Israel appears to be standing over an abyss, between terrorism, nuclear weapons, international delegitimization, social problems and a host of other challenges, it’s not unreasonable to wonder whether Israel will survive.
But to look back at Israel’s history is to recognize that its situation has always been precarious, that it has always faced existential challenges that seemed on the verge of tearing it apart.
Israel has faced destruction time and time again, and while today’s threats are of a different character than in the past, they are a continuation of a small country’s long struggle against the historical imperatives of the West and the East.
Israel exists in defiance of history. In defiance of Longfellow’s exclamation in The Jewish Cemetery at Newport that, “What once has been shall be no more”. It is predictably unpredictable. There is no one set future for the Jewish state, only many possible futures.
In Israel: 50 Years From Now, we will explore those possible futures, both the good and the bad, in relation to the trends in Israel and the world. Through those possible futures we may begin to see whether the Jewish state will be able to defy the prediction in Longfellow’s poem or whether it will once again become a Jewish cemetery.
CALIPH TAKES QUEEN IN FOUR MOVES
Holding the EUFA European women's chess championship in a Muslim country like Turkey had some predictable results as new "modesty" rules have been issued for players.
“I heard many comments from spectators and coaches,” Sava Stoisavljevic, the European Chess Union General Secretary, told Chessbase News. “There is dress code in many different sports, and we decided to establish our rules as well.”
I wonder how many moves it will take until everyone is playing in a Burqa?
WAR, WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR
The words “North Korea” and “diplomacy” are a running joke even in diplomatic circles, and seeing a headline like “Clinton hails North Korea food deal” doesn’t give you enough information to determine whether you are seeing a news story from 2011 or 1994. Sadly, the answer is 2011, as the Hope and Change crew have put their faith in their own diplomacy, rather than in history or common sense.
North Korea is more than just a Communist mafia with nuclear weapons; it’s the starting point in the supply chain for any Muslim country that wants its own nuclear weapons. Its ability to blackmail the West encourages nations like Iran to push for their own nuclear programs to be able to have their own atomic blackmail card… and brings us closer to the day when a bankrupt North Korea decides that America really is a paper tiger and our soldiers find themselves fighting a second Korean War.

SYRIA WAR WATCH
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan Friday suggested the creation of a 'buffer zone' or 'security zone' on Turkey's border with Syria. This was one of a number of measures which would be discussed during the second 'Friends of Syria' meeting, which Erdogan said would take place in Istanbul on April 2
The surge in the number of refugees has already caused speculation that Turkey might dispatch its military to Syria to establish a buffer zone where civilians could find safety and humanitarian assistance without crossing the border. However, such an intervention would be highly provocative, not least because Syrian rebels would probably use the zone as a safe haven.
The latter paragraph comes from a Turkish paper.
Turkish troops on Syrian soil shielding Syrian rebels will lead to an armed confrontation, accidentally or on purpose. Turkey is a NATO member. Such an attack should not trigger Article V of the Atlantic Treaty, but considering that regime change was implemented in Libya under the guise of a No Fly Zone, Sarkozy, Cameron, Obama and Merkel, with the urging of the House of Saud and the Al-Thanis in Qatar, will try to spin it that way.
From Article VI 1 of the Atlantic Treaty, defines Article V in relation to an attack...
on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer. The French Mandate of Syria expired in 1943. French troops left in 1946.
Now there have already been suggestions that Article V could get the US into Syrian regime change by the Turkish press. Turkey has flirted with abusing Article V when it sent Islamic terrorists allied with its government on a flotilla to aid Hamas and then badgered NATO over the consequences. But key NATO members were not invested in attacking Israel. They are in attacking Syria.
A Turkish security zone would mean an invasion of Syria, raising the stakes and creating a rump state for the Free Syrian Army, where it could pick up weapons and training and house its leadership.
ONLY MUSLIM WOMEN ARE COURAGEOUS
Every now and then the State Department does something useful. This happens around once a decade. The rest of the time it vacillates between destructive and useless behavior.
The International Women of Courage Awards is one of those generally useless events, except that the balance seems to have tipped to limiting the awards to Muslims. This year Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama showed up to honor a group of mostly Muslim women.
In 2011, only half the honorees were Muslim, this year it's 7 out of 10 honorees from places like Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Libya and the Maldives. 5 of the honorees are depicted on the site wearing Hijabs.
A STAIN ON THE SOUL
“History proves that the white man is a devil,” said Malcolm X. “Whites are liars,” said Jeremiah Wright. “I love to harass white folks,” said Derrick Bell.
“This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy,” a black teenager said to Allen Coon, a white student on the porch of his own home, as he set him on fire.
“Don’t tell me words don’t matter,” Obama once said. And he was right. Words do matter. The words of his mentors that have rooted hate so deep in the black community that it has become a cancer, a sore that bleeds violence, a stain on the soul.

THE CENTRALIZATION OF MEDICINE
The consulting firm Accenture projects that, by 2013, only around a third of doctors in all specialties will own their own practices, down from about 43% in 2009 and nearly half in 2005.
WE ARE ALL HATE GROUPS NOW
As regular readers know, the Southern Poverty Law Center recently designated me a one-man, one-cat hate group. But as it turns out they may have also designated themselves a hate group.

GERMAN SOCIALIST LEADER WORKING ON OUTREACH TO NATIONAL SOCIALISTS
As the Jerusalem Post reports, Sigmar Gabriel, the head of Germany’s Social Democratic Party and a likely challenger to Chancellor Angela Merkel in the next parliamentary election, posted on his Facebook page today a statement that Israel “is an apartheid regime, for which there is no justification.”
Now the odds of our buddy Sigmar facing the same kind of outrage and pressure that Thilo Sarrazin did are minimal. And had Sarrazin only denounced Israel and called for its destruction, he would now be president of the EU.
Things are getting uglier on campus. Mark Tapson reports on some of what's going on and shows us the latest Freedom Center ad that's stirring up controversy and anger from the Muslim Brotherhood.
THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM
From Netanyahu's speech in the Knesset
They brought Iran into Gaza – we will remove Iran from Gaza. We did not bring Iran into Gaza – you brought Iran into Gaza!
Wherever we withdrew, Iran entered. We withdrew from Lebanon, Iran came in. We withdrew from Gaza, Iran came in. Some people suggest that we act in a similar manner in Judea and Samaria. Iran will come in there too. I cannot believe that there is anyone, despite your yelling, despite your objections and opposition, who does not understand that we cannot repeat this same mistake a third time.
Dig Baby Dig
For over two decades, US government regulatory and tax policy have effectively shut down both mining and manufacturing on US soil, so that US companies cannot make a profit unless they outsource and offshore more and more of their operations. Thus, we have foolishly let ourselves become dependent on strategic rare earth minerals imported from China.
...just remember that the next time there's chatter about how big Apple has gotten, its pipeline depends on Chinese materials which can manipulate prices for the benefit of their own manufacturers.

Re Israel 50 years later.ReplyDelete
For thousands of years, in their WAR against G-d, the G-d haters have sought ravenously to utterly wipe out the Jewish people. Our all powerful Almighty G-d has not allowed the God haters to succeed.
All the forces of darkness are lining up against the world's sole, tiny Jewish state. Very hard times are ahead, but in these perilous times, no power on earth will be able to extinguish the light that is Israel. Israel's light will shine forever!
G-d has promised in the Bible, a wonderful future where the evil ones will never again control or hurt another human being. G-d keeps ALL His promises!
Daniel, for shame on your heading for Jeffrey Goldberg! Obama is the Jewish President for those who live in the shtetl of assimilation, and rely on the Czar, ooops I mean the President, to keep the Cossacks away from their income streams, overblown self-importance, and perhaps pathological need for acceptance by their liberal peers. Israel is clearly, in my opinion, a personal liability for this set.ReplyDelete
