The Year We Lost Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and Most of the Middle East

About the only people having a Happy New Year in the Muslim world aren't the Christians who are huddling and waiting out the storm, but the Islamists who use a different calendar but are having the best time of their lives since the last Caliphate.

The news that the Obama Administration has brought in genocidal Muslim Brotherhood honcho Yusuf Al-Qaradawi to discuss terms of surrender for the transfer of Afghanistan to the Taliban caps a year in which the Brotherhood and the Salafists are looking up carve up Egypt, the Islamists won Tunisia's elections, Turkey's Islamist AKP Party purged the last bastions of the secular opposition and Libya's future as an Islamist state was secured by American, British and French jets and special forces.

Time Magazine declared that 2011 was the Year of the Protester, they might have more honestly called it the Year of the Islamist. In 2010 the Taliban were still hiding in caves. In 2012 they are set to be in power from Tunisia to Afghanistan and from Egypt to Yemen. They won't go by that name of course. Most of them will have elaborate names with the words "Justice" or "Community" in them, but they will for the most part be minor variations on the Muslim Brotherhood theme.

2011 will indeed be remembered, but not because of any Arab Spring or OWS nonsense. It will be a pivotal year in the rise of the next Caliphate. A rise disguised by angry protesters waving cell phones and flags. And clueless media coverage that treated Tahrir Square as the new fall of the Berlin Wall.

This was the year that Obama helped topple several regimes that served as the obstacles to Islamist takeovers. The biggest fish that Ibn Hussein speared out of the sea for Al-Qaradawi was Egypt, a prize that the Islamists had wanted for the longest time, but had never managed to catch. That is until the Caliph-in-Chief got it for them. Egyptian Democracy splits the take between the Brotherhood and the Salafists, whom the media is already quick to describe as moderates. First up against the wall are the Christians. Second up against the wall are the Jews. Third up is all that military equipment we provided to the Egyptian military which will shortly be finding its way to various "moderate militants" who want to discuss our foreign policy with us.

But there's no reason to sell the fall of Tunisia short or the transition in Yemen. And when mob protests didn't work, NATO sent in the jets to pound Libya until Al-Qaeda got its way there. Turkey's fate had been written some time ago, but 2011 was the year that the AKP completed its death grip on the country with a final crackdown on the military, which has now ceased to be a force for stability.

Left out of the picture is Somalia. Liberals fulminated when Bush helped drive out Al-Shaab and its jolly Muslim lads with a habit of beheading people who didn't grow beards or watched too much soccer. Any number of editorials complained that we had destabilized the country and that the Islamic Courts Union were really a bunch of moderates in disguise.

Sadly Obama has not been able to salvage the position of Al-Shabab which is low on money and has turned to forcing 12 year old girls into prostitution and torturing and murdering those who refuse. They're also forcing the elderly to join its militias. But there is good news. Like every terrorist group, Al-Shabab has gotten itself a Twitter account and when O finds 5 minutes in between vacations and golf tournaments, the White House will order neighboring African countries to withdraw their armies and send in Al-Qaradawi to negotiate.

But even if the Islamists don't get Somalia, they've got a nice chunk of North Africa to chew over, not to mention a few more slices of the Middle-Eastern pie, and Afghanistan will be back in their hands as soon as they manage to outmaneuver Karzai, which given his paranoia and cunning may admittedly take a while. But the Taliban are not big on maneuvers, they have the manpower, which means it's only a matter of time until they do what the Mujaheddin did to the puppet Soviet regime. A history that everyone in the region is quite familiar with.

The ugliest part of this story isn't what Obama did. It's when he did it. If he really had no interest in winning Afghanistan, and if as he had said, the Taliban are not our enemy, then why did we stay for so long and lose so many lives fighting a war that the White House had no intention of winning? The ugly conclusion that must be drawn from the timing of the Iraq and Afghanistan withdrawals is that the wars were being played out to draw down around the time of the next election.

What that means is Obama sacrificed the thousands of Americans killed and wounded in the conflict as an election strategy. The idea that American soldiers were fighting and dying for no reason until the time when maximum political advantage could be gained from pulling them out is horrifying, it's a crime beyond redemption, an act worse than treason-- and yet there is no other rational conclusion to be drawn from the timetable.

If the Taliban were not our enemy, then the war should have ended shortly after the election. Instead Obama threw more soldiers into the mix while tying their hands with Rules of Engagement that prevented them from defending themselves or aggressively going after the Taliban. Casualties among US soldiers and Afghan civilians increased. Now the Taliban are no longer our enemy and we are negotiating a withdrawal.

There are only two possible explanations. Either we lost the war or Obama never intended to win it and was allowing the Taliban to murder American soldiers until the next election. If so we're not just looking at a bad man at the teleprompter, we are looking into the face of an evil so amoral that it defies description.

But whatever motives we may attribute to the Obama Administration the outcome of its policies in backing the Arab Spring with influence, training and even weapons is indisputable. What Carter did to Persia, Obama has done to Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and that's not the whole of the list.

Iraq will likely fall to Iran in a bloody civil war, whether it will be parts of the country or the whole country depend on how much support we provide to the Kurds. Under the Obama Administration the level of support is likely to be none.

Once the Islamists firmly take power across North Africa they will begin squeezing the last states that have still not fallen. Last month the leader of the murderous Enhada Islamists who have taken power in Tunisia stopped by Algeria. Morocco has not yet come down, but at this rate it's only a matter of time.

Syria remains an open question. The Muslim Brotherhood is in a successor position there and would welcome our intervention against the Assad regime. The Assads are no prize and they're Iranian puppets, but shoving them out would give the Brotherhood yet another country and its sizable collection of weaponry.

All that is bound to make 2012 an ugly year in its own right, especially if the Obama Administration continues allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to control its foreign policy. For all that Time and other mainstream media outlets continue splashing the same protest pornography photos on every page, the region has become an indisputably worse place this year with the majority of moderate governments overthrown and replaced, or in the process of being replaced by Islamist thugs.

Carter can breathe a sigh of relief. In one year the Obama Administration has done far more damage than the bucktoothed buffoon did in his entire term. After 2011 we can look back with nostalgia on the days when all that an incompetent leftist in the White House did was lose one country, one canal and a bunch of hostages. Things have gotten so bad that we can safely say that Obama on a good day is worse than Jimmy Carter on a bad day.

Forget the usual end of the year roundups which focus on pop stars, dead celebrities and who wore what and when. None of that really matters. It didn't matter four years ago. It certainly doesn't matter now.

2011 was not the year that Steve Jobs died, it was the year that any hope that we were not headed for a violent collision of civilizations died as Western governments helped topple the few moderates and let the worst have their harvest of power.

Will that be considered a bad thing in the long run? It's hard to say. What Obama did was speed up the date of an inescapable conflict. A day when it will no longer be state-supported terrorists setting off bombs, but when much of the Muslim world will look like Iran and will openly declare that they are at war with us. That was almost certainly bound to happen anyway, but bringing the day forward by ten or twenty years means that we will be less weaker than we might have been when it happens.

Evil has a way of destroying itself, and in his own backward way, Barry Hussein may have helped save civilization. It will be a long time before we know for sure, but giving the Brotherhood what it wanted before they were ready for it, and before we are so completely crippled by the left's political correctness that we are left helpless, may be our best hope.

2011 was the year we lost Afghanistan, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and many others, but it should not be the year that we lose hope. For all that the bad guys have been gaining and domestic prospects don't look good, the bad guys have a way of destroying themselves. Give evil its head and it will kill millions, but it will also self-destruct in a spectacular way. Even when it seems as if we have run out of productive things to do, it is instructive to remember that there is a Higher Power in the destinies of men and that the aspirations of evil men to play at being gods eventually leads them to complete and utter ruin through their own arrogance.

But 2011 is also a reminder that the world cannot afford another year of Obama. That it cannot afford the appeasement, the destructive policies or the post-American politics that have made his regime the worst administration in this country's history. 2011 may be the year that we lost the Middle East, but let's work to make 2012 the year that this country loses one Barack Hussein Obama.

Yes, I truly believe that obama is evil. To the core.

  2. ......and a happy new year to you too Sultan!
Whom does a possible caliphate bring any thing but religious power in all those countries toppled out of even the semblance of moderation? Realize that except for Libya non of these have oil reserves to speak of so non can afford to isolate their economy from the global economy. If they create only a greater level of impoverishment for their populace they shall even under a strict religious rule create more and more social unrest, the wealthy Arabian countries under such a rule buy their people off to stay in power but how shall especially Egypt and Afghanistan prevent from imploding into total chaos when they cut all investors incentive.

  3. "Third up is all that military equipment we provided to the Egyptian military which will shortly be finding its way to various "moderate militants" who want to discuss our foreign policy with us."

When I was a child, many years ago, I looked at a magazine, I think it was Time, and read an article about the number of M1A1 Abrams tanks being provided to the Egyptians. I knew immediately that those tanks were meant for us. There was no other conclusion. After all, who did Egypt need those tanks for? The Ethiopians? The British? The Iranians who are blocked off by Israel?

It is incredibly silly that you do not outright say what is clear about the Arab Spring, that this was an American invention. There is plenty of evidence to back up that assertion. This clearly is not something that came out of nowhere. I do not believe that this originates with Obama, rather I believe this is a more subtle form of Imperialism. It is not the first time something of this nature has been tried. Fomenting revolution is an old trick in both the British and Russian playbooks. The Americans tend to be cruder about these things, but even they can learn new tricks.

We need to ask ourselves what the American game plan is with this regime change. How far do they wish to take it, and what other oil producing countries would be profitable for them to topple and replace with an easily manipulated government or military occupation.

But that's just crazy talk. The US would never do that. They are the good guys, we know they are because they always tell us they are.

As for Obama and his timetable, in fairness, Michael Yon has stated that it would take nearly a 100 years of occupation to get Afghanistan into working order. Let us be realistic and say that even if he was off by a factor of 5, there was simply no way the US would be able to keep it's armies there for so long.

Incidentally, congress has passed a law banning any discussion by any officer or employee of the Fed regarding the mission to kill Osama bin Laden. H.R. 2819. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h2819/show

Why that almost sounds like they are worried that someone will say that the man they killed wasn't bin Ladin. But that's crazy talk. So crazy, we are going to pass a law making it a federal crime to talk about it. Or give any real evidence for it.

Daniel, there is a country in the Middle East that is composed of good people, who care about freedom (well those of us who aren't leftists anyway), are moral, innovative and have a wealthy rich culture. This country should be the one to make things work in the Middle East, not the US, not Russia, not Britain, and by God not any of the other damn bloodthirsty European powers.

We have got to learn to accept that we have a real destiny in this world. We start by taking care of our own. Once we start doing that, the other people in this region will realize we are serious and not just puppets who dance to the tune of the West.

We underestimate the complete disaster that was Gush Katif. We do not realize how much respect we lost in the world and among ourselves for that abomination.

Well, some dude, to be fair, the usa sells lot o' tanks, ectc. to other countries who have the money to pay for them. not just egypt. we are in the business of selling stuff and even if we were not, they would get them from russia or china. so that arguement does not hold water. what i do agree with you on the fact of the gush katiff disengagement, was a disaster completely. and something we will feel sorry for, for a long time but if the MB does not wanna recognize israel, which they say they will not under any circumstances, then we may just end up trying to re-take the siani and gush katiff or maybe just let gaza stand as the palestinan capital and tell them is is all you get, west bank goes back to being ours and fakeistans get kicked to the jordanian curb, where they belong. hopefully this could be the year where there are some military decisions made to decide some long standing problems like these and put to bed once and for all all this nonsense no matter how unpopluar they will be in the media. and it will be unpopular, there will be hell to pay for all this i am sure. another problem will be how the media plays into the election, and the left wing loonies who occupy everyplace. will the media finally own up to the truth and begin to stop being so PC to tell the truth like the old tv game from back in the 1960's? dont know, hope so, cause we dont have much time before wild wars begin and maps change boundaries soon. maybe for good.

I do not agree. But I will make things easier on you. Out of principle I despise all government, and I mistrust all government regardless of who is in charge. I am not here telling you how bad the Americans are vs. how wonderful the Israelis are. For one thing, I know too much about the Israeli government.

I am telling you that we are pretty fools for ignoring the ruthless natures of these bastards who run the systems we live under. To get power you must have money and power, and the sorts of people that have it, want more. Such people generally do not care if that involves toppling their own countries so long as they come out ahead.

This is true no matter what system you hold by. The solution is to be AWARE and not be a damn fool. To make noise, and hold these people accountable. Because these are people that will always take the easiest path. If you make a path very hard then they will prefer to find a simpler route to getting lots of money and power.

They are not men of principle, and you know what? That's exactly the way I want it.

Men of principle have a nasty tendency to get us into holy wars, or overturn centuries of tradition because they have found the "One True Way" that will save everyone. This usually involves lots of pain and sacrifice from everyone except the smooth talking orator who has made the ultimate sacrifice by sending the rest of us to be rendered into grist for the cause. Poor guy.

No men of principle for me thanks, I'd prefer good amoral pragmatists who know I'll take away their pretty toys if they overdo it. Another word for such MEN is "Statesmen".

This is why the American gov will give Egypt a great deal of money to buy weapons from US defense companies. The country of America as a whole loses, but the def. contractors and the bribed politicians win. But what can you do? People are stupid and they'll go along with anything if it has a nice bit of crap attached to it.

The entire Sinai deal was the result of a tremendous loss of nerve. The Yom Kippur war itself was the result of the unwillingness of the Israeli government to stand up to their dear friends in the world and do what they knew had to be done. I do not blame their dear friends. After all, governments do what governments do, that is, ruthlessly try to backstab and seek power. This is life. No, I blame the Israelis for showing so much weakness. I can't blame them too much, after all, they are under more pressure than anyone else. But this is how it is.

It was a bad deal. It was a bad deal to hand over all that territory, it was a bad deal to get a third party involved in a straightforward war that had effectively been resolved on the battlefield. It was abominably stupid to lose a potential client state to a ruthless (albeit mostly benevolent) superpower. It was criminal to let them get those weapons. And the absolute worst thing they did was accept that bribe money. That they didn't realize the money would be used as a perpetual club to smash them around shows both their failure in character as well as their utter lack of vision. Whether it was meant sincerely or maliciously, tt was welfare, and welfare is one of the most destructive forces known to man. I was a child and I knew what would happen with those tanks.

And by the way, I am not a Paulian. I believe he is one of the biggest con artists of them all. He claims to want to limit the Federal gov and abolish many self destructive agencies. Well that's fine and dandy, but the Executive branch doesn't have the power to do that, only the Legislative can pull that off. Just a little detail that the Paul campaign neglects to mention.

I've been looking at this silver lining on the cloud too. And we remember that God is at the helm. He hand is manifest in small ways. I saw it often in small turns in WWII where the Germans should have won here and there, but for some reason things didn't go as they should have. The Torah tells us how things will turn out. Put on your strength Zion.

It’s a relief to see someone call Obama evil. He is evil, not just because of his foreign policy, which is aimed at surrendering the world to his irrational allies (the Muslim Brotherhood, the Taliban, Hugo Chavez, et al.), but because he wishes evil upon this country. Individuals are expendable to him; they don’t count when he considers the great lump of individuals called the public, so that’s why American soldiers lost their lives until he could make his next move on the chessboard of global politics. He never intended to win any war, except that waged by his allies in the various quadrants of Islam. Individuals, who own their own lives (not the government), can be sacrificed to his power-lusting ambition to gain control over reality, to force them into submission or face elimination or eradication. If Obama were top dog in some Islamic country, the citizens of that country would fare just as badly as those in Syria. Cruelty is in his character, married to an indifference to or contempt for reason. That explains his utter tone-deafness to the costs of Obamacare and the scandal of Solyndra and the failure of his economic policies (TARP, jobs, etc.), mandating blinders for those charged with fighting terrorism, sympathizing with OWS, etc.

The consequences of irrational policies matter not to him, because he is not touched by them. When he is out of office he will collect a sumptuous pension and enjoy perks and a Secret Service entourage, and emulate Bill Clinton and the Bushes and Carter and collect munificent fees for speaking all over the world on how the world must be remade in Marxist global terms. The only thing stopping him at the moment from just declaring himself Il Duce is the knowledge that he wouldn’t get away with it. Even the Democrats would be outraged. But this man has damaged this country, perhaps irreparably, and he deserves the scorn and contempt of every American.

  11. Evil itself is impotent. Novelist-philosopher Ayn Rand noted:

“Evil, not value, is an absence and a negation, evil is impotent and has no power but that which we let it extort from us….. The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum. Whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no compromise on basic principles…. In any compromise between food and poison, it is only death that can win. In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit.” Obama is our Negater-in-Chief, an empty suit elected by people who knew what he stood for: an envious malice for everything America once stood for.

  13. THE HEADLINE PRESUMES OBAMA HAS OUR INTEREST IN HIS HEART AND MIND.

“LOSE” ASSUMES THE POV OF A PERSON WHO WANTS THESE COUNTRIES TO BE ALLIES OF THE WEST.

BUT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE ON THE SIDE OF GLOBAL JIHAD AND RESTORING THE CALIPHATE, THESE NATIONS WERE NOT “LOST”; THEY WERE GAINED.

DUE TO THE CONSISTENCY OF THE RESULTS – (IN EVERY CASE THE JIHADISTS HAVE SECURED MORE POWER) – I THINK IT IS REASONABLE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE RESULTS ARE THE PRODUCT OF DESIGN AND NOT ACCIDENT OR INCOMPETENCE.

OR LET ME PUT IT IN THE FORM OF A QUESTION:

IF OBAMA REALLY WAS A CRYPTO-MUSLIM SEEKING TO RESTORE THE CALIPHATE, WOULD HIS POLICIES BE ANY DIFFERENT?

    NOPE.

Whose side is Obama on? This excellent assessment of his Middle East foreign policy allows for only one rational conclusion and it's not the US or its allies. If he is not a covert Muslim plant he does a perfect impression of one. A big irony in all of this was the kudos he received for killing bin Laden while post-humously achieving for him his single greatest political objective: the reformation of the Caliphate. It looks like the entire Arab part of the Middle East will now become as insane as Iran now. Anyone who still supports Obama is a suicidal fool.

SomeDude, oh it was partially a Western invention, but the agenda there leaned to a liberal takeover by the likes of El Baradei, rather than a full blown Islamist sweep

    I agree with your conclusion

    Rita, indeed

Anon, optimistic picture but I suspect it's a bit too optimistic. Student protests tend to come from a population that has a university base. Cairo is at its heart more backward than Tehran, higher poverty levels and more people willing to fight for the Islamists. It would take a good deal of economic disappointment, as in Iran or Mubarak's Cairo, before a student protest becomes viable. And it too can be squashed with enough thugs and bullets.

Edward, yes it's the policy of a sociopath who has learned only one lesson in his messed up childhood and that is to look out only for himself and disregard the impact of his actions on everyone else.

It is extremely alarming that in ALL of these countries, the most radical elements of Islam were DELIBERATELY brought to power by the Administration.. Secular and moderate Muslim leaders are despised by the U.S. government.

Kaddafi was actually fighting AGAINST AL-Qaeda. US/NATO united with, and financed Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah to oust Kaddafi who was cooperating fully with America. US/NATO hunted down Kaddafi.

All of this has very bad consequences for America. What kind of America does the Administration seek? Very scary.

  23. From comments both here and on other anti-Jihad sites about our various infidel gods saving us from Allah, it seems more and more people have abandoned reality for a convenient crutch...leave everything to God, accept His will, let God decide, He knows best, He will save us...

We meet with this spineless attitude repeatedly, by our politicians, the media and other leaders we are supposed to trust. It is leading Western civilisation into ruin, and yet its timid adherents cling to its artificial comfort which allows them to sleep soundly at night.

While Islam credits Allah with precisely everything, since everything exists purely by His favour, it leaves nothing at all - nothing at all - in His hands. Instead, it tasks his followers with uncompromising devotion to achieve His wishes.

We, on the other hand, sit idly by consoling ourselves that our infidel gods are simply creating the illusion of torment and destruction to test our faith, and that in the end they will individually or collectively step in to save the day. One particularly sad poster actually constructed a timeline for his God to follow so that we can all live happily ever after.

It should come as no surprise that Islam is in ascendance as we fall in decline. Or that these relative conditions will continue gathering momentum.

Islam does as it pleases, with impunity, while we feel sorry for ourselves and thank our infidel gods for sitting on the sidelines. Just as well we're not a football team.

    Grow up.

Maybe part of the reason for that is because we are so dependent on those around us. Very few of us know how to fight, how to shoot, how to grow food, how to make clothes (badly or well), how to make shoes, how to fix a car, basic electronics, etc. etc.

The result is that the individual is dependent on society not just for advantage, but for his very life. This isn't to say that anyone should go into the desert and learn to live on rocks. It is to say that as long as you do not have the ability to walk off, then you are not going to be truly free.

Most people don't have a second passport, or an overseas bank account, they don't even balance their own checkbook, and it would shock me if more than 1% of the population in any given State actually knew what the divorce and domestic violence laws were.

If you don't see where I'm going with this, I'll explain. Dependency breeds dependency. When you don't take care of yourself on the most basic level (survival), that attitude carries over to all levels. That's how you end up with a population that throws up it's hands and expects God to perform a miracle.

A word about miracles. The ability of a human being to blink his eyes is actually a far greater miracle than the splitting of the sea. According to some Jewish traditions, the sea didn't simply "move aside", they made 13 corridors of ice, whose walls reached up several hundred miles (I forget the exact height).

    I actually believe that happened.

The reason that is not a problem for me to accept is because I realize that the ability of my hands to type on a keyboard is a far more bizarre thing than a one-time occurrence. We don't realize that, because we are used to it. But it is the CONSISTENCY of the event that is the REAL miracle, the true gift. This planet should have been wiped out years ago, by asteroids, plague, what have you. That the giant ball of radioactive gas creating thousands of nuclear explosions, a mere several million miles away hasn't blown us all to hell, is amazing. That we wake up every day is a amazing. These are true miracles.

People expect God to perform miracles, because like everything else in their lives they've grown accustomed to expecting everyone else to take care of them. They expect that not because they think they deserve it, because they completely lack any faith in their own G-d given ability to meet any challenges in their lives.

The truth is, we have the ability to achieve a lot, and survive far more than most of us would imagine. We can be a lot more stubborn than they realize. We can do these things, because we aren't really the ones making it happen. That's what God does. He is the one making all the "little" mundane things work. That's His game plan. If you work with Him, He'll work with you. If you prefer to play XBox all day and expect reality to sort itself out, He'll work with that too, only you won't be having much say in His calculations.

If you want G-d to keep you from drowning, then put some effort into learning how to swim and keep off of ships that head into icebergs.

Dubya and Barry Hussein helped the Islamo-fascists ascend to power in several nation-states. Now they have to govern them, which they'll do poorly because Sharia law is suited to governing a certain kind of Utopia that's just as unattainable as socialism.

When the masses become restless, their lot having worsened under Sharia, the governing mullahs will redirect their anger towards the Great and Little Satan, arm them and send them off to war, where they'll slaughtered.

Failure at every turn awaits the mullahs because they're not equipped to raise their political game to the next level to compete with enemies who have.

whirlwinder: I knew that when our Muslim-in-Chief was elected that something was not right about him. I knew that he was socialist/marxist and that he had muslim friends but I never dreamed that he would go to bat for Islam. He is in for 100% even appointing muslims in high government places while dropping terrorism from our lexicon. So we have buffoons in Homeland Security, the Justice Department and the Intelligence community that cannot put Islam and terrorism together in a sentence. God help us if we do not get rid of this pretender soon.

This article and some of the corroborating comments are factual, and facts are stubborn things. I have preached the same sermon to whoever listened from January 25, 2011.

What the USA has done in 2011 is pure insanity, unless it had predetermined to self-destruct and to take the rest of the civilized world down with it. Nasr was a lot smarter and rational than BHO; see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWCJnFu9gF0 , for those who understand the language.

BTW, as a side bar, the USA does not give the Abraham M1 tanks to Egypt, they BUILD IT THERE!!!

I better stop here before I get going and fill out few pages of DANIEL GREENFIELD’S BLOG.
